ok, so I previously have been stuck in England without IBE, came home to the States and immediately went to my parents place in Cleveland to help them move to Alaska and had no time to buy it in cleveland. Yesterday i get home to Milwaukee, go to Barnes and Noble, buy the album, put it on random play and get my first listen of Are We Family.... and then I get pulled over for speeding! The deputy wanted to know why i was speeding and i explained why and he was kind and gracious enough to let me off with a warning because he was a hip fan himself :thumb:
Can anyone access the message board for www.sharingthegroove.org ? I get the following message when I go to the site:
Quote:Update: 08.03.2004 -- As a result of all the work we have been doing behind the scenes, we have decided to upgrade the servers once again. You will now see a huge preformace difference as well as new features. The site will start becoming live around 7pm EST, or as soon as your DNS progragtes.
The site was supposed to be back up 2 days ago, but I can't access it at home or at work.
To go along with the PJ interest that's looming over the forum here, what inspired the track "Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me"? Is it completely original or did they take it from somewhere?
I was going through my liner notes on DFN yesterday and I came across 2 interesting things. The first, is that Jake Gold of Canadian Idol (word used loosely) "fame" is or at least was a major player in the Hip's management team. He caught a winner with the Hip, time will tell if he can work his magic with Ryan Malcolm...I think NO!!!
But the 2nd thing I noticed, and quite possibly the most interesting, is the Hip's mentioning of Bruce Dickinson (yes, the Bruce Dickinson) in the liner notes. I can't help but flash back to that Will Ferrell skit on SNL and think about Bruce Dickinson being in the studio and busting in and telling Gord "Yeah Gordie that was great, but I really need you to explore the studio space a little more, oh and I gotta have more Susan!!! I've gotta fever and the only prescription is more Susan. When I'm done with you boys you'll all be wearing gold plated diapers"
If you haven't seen the skit, go rent the best of Will Ferrell's SNL DVD...truly a classic.
I just noticed you're up to 999 posts, so you'll be up to at least 1000 by the time you reply to this  And on the day after your birthday, too! Your contributions are sometimes amusing, sometimes thought-provoking, but always entertaining. Cheers!
...but will do almost anything to get some Hip shows. Any kind souls out there willing to B&P? Any help getting me started would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I haven't seen this listed recently among the better ones, but I just cannot stand this album at all. There are a couple of stronger songs (Vienna, ABAC) and some okay songs, and that sinkhole that is Butts Wigglin, Apartment Song, and Coconut Cream. I just cannot believe that they saw fit to put three such stupid songs back to back to back.
I honestly don't know what happened here. I suspect that after Day For Night, they were going for something mellow, and mellow just doesn't suit them that well. Or Gordon was smoking reefer when he wrote the lyrics. There are a lot of lyrics to cringe at on this album.
I picked up the new Junkies album today and there's a song on there called "My Wild Child" which features some lyrics that I thought sounded slightly reminiscent of "Trick Rider" from Coke Machine Glow....and then wouldn't ya know it, I found this in the liner notes:
"Special thanks to Gordon Downie for his gem of a song, Trick Rider (my wild child, your night light's on)"
I thought that was pretty cool.
What's the point of their reporting system when someone can merely end the auction early before they get caught?
It's pretty clear from this guys' other listing that all he is doing is selling CD-R boots......
