One thing I love about being in this forum is discovering new bands that people are into... through that I've gotten into a lot of great new music that's out there.

One example is Constantines. I heard the first release, "Working Full Time" from their new album Tournament of Hearts coming out later this month in Canada (and second week of October, I think, in the States). The tune sounds awesome! On their record label's website (Three Gut Records, http://www.threegutrecords.com/index.php) they include a link to John Sakamoto's "Anti-Hit List" podcast in which he spins this track. He gives the band a lot of praise, saying this album comes the closest to them harnessing their live power on disc. He also says something else very interesting... in his opinion it shows "how thin a divide there is between alternative and mainstream rock", and that if you dropped "Working Full Time" in between tunes by the Hip and Bachman-Turner Overdrive (his examples), hardly anyone would notice.

Anyway, I know a lot of people on this forum have checked out and dig this band, but those who haven't should check them out, I think you'll love 'em! :thumb:

Has anyone else been experiencing pop-ups lately as they visit Hipbase?
I have never had them before - but now my home and work computer get them.
Funny, because I do not get any at other sites.

say you were in a tragically hip cover band and you wanted to learn a bunch of songs by other canadian artists that Hip fans would love to hear live....give me your list.

I was browsing The Smoking Gun and looking at various groups backstage riders for their concerts. Some seem ridicoulous (did you know Carrot Top wants a female masseuse at every show?) and others funny (The Foo Fighters will only share their dressing room with Oasis or Led Zepplin)

Does anyone know of a Hip rider floating around anywhere? It would be fun to see and compare to the other acts.

I remember reading an interview with Eddie Van Halen as their rider had some strange stuff in it. He says the reason they put the weird stuff in is to make sure if the rider is actually read, as there is "important safety stuff in there too". So, I can see his point..... though most people I think just do it because they are stars....

Just a small note of appreciation to everyone at THE HIP.com.
I e-mailed them asking if they could send any old pictures or posters of the guys for my wife's birthday. She is a HUGE fan!..I got a reply from the e-mail the next day, and five days after that a fed ex. truck pulls up into the driveway with a package from the management company in British Columbia. In the package was an 8x10 picture of the guys autographed, and a poster of In Between Evolution, also signed by the guys. It made her day, as well as mine! Thanks again...great guys and fantastic FAST service and reply!

Two weeks from now, I was found dead. It is believed that I starved to death after I lost my job as a result of repeatedly watching Scorcese's new Dylan documentary, No Direction Home, 22 hours a day.

The future is scary but there's nothing much I can do to avoid it.

Seriously, I received my copy yesterday (about the time the doorknob broke), and all I can say is watch the thing when it comes on PBS on the 26th. It covers familiar territory -- in fact, it tells a story retold so often that it's irritating. But it tells that story better than I think it has been told before.

According to an Article from the New University Paper, UC Irvine, Calif,:

"Feist started singing as a teen in a punk band and then played guitar in the rock band The Tragically Hip before putting out her first solo album in 1999. "

Leaving work today, I headed to the bathroom to piss before taking the C-Train home. As I was exiting the bathroom, I passed Dave "Tiger" Williams going in. Because it happened so quick and because it was a washroom, I never said anything to him. I waited for the elevator to come and when it finally did, Dave came out of the bathroom and looked quite bewildered. He was lost and looking for a particular tenent that I knew wasn't on this floor. He hopped on the elevator with me and we had a quick chat on our way down.

That is actually the 2nd time I've met him. Back in the mid 90's, I was a bartender at a pub in Saskatoon. Dave was in town to visit his daughter, or so he told me, and came into the pub for some drinks. We shot the shit for a long time...real nice guy.

Not much point to this post, unless of couse you happen to be a fan of Tiger Williams.
