Here are the stats for the 2000 Evening With… tour and some numbers from the 2009 tour to date for comparison. It seems like a good time to compare as the numbers of shows played on the 2009 tour is almost the same as those played during the 2000 Evening With Tour.

2000 – Number of shows (only shows with 2 sets included) = 41 - Oct 2 2000 to December 23 2000
2009 – Number of shows to date = 40 (1 show was only 1 set which is included in the stats)

2000 – Number of songs played = 68 different songs totaling 1227 songs for all shows.
2009 – Number of songs played = 78 different songs totaling 989 songs for all shows.

2000 - % of catalogue played (only studio album songs included) Of the 68 songs, 67 were studio songs (one was Montreal) – 95 studio songs up to M@W recorded for a total of 71% of catalogue played.
2009 - % of catalogue played (only studio album songs included plus 2X Yer Favorites – not including bonus tracks). Of the 78 songs, all were studio cuts – 146 studio songs released up to We Are The Same for a total of 53% of catalogue played.

Has anyone here seen this total piece of crap fake reality show?
It is horrible - freaking bad.
It is about 4½ scumbags that recreate outrageous repossessions with horrible actors, horrible story lines and - ah Fuckit, it is all just horrible.

Is anything worse??

I was away for our local Riverfest headlined by Theory of a Deadman this year, but was just reading that Gord joined another Kingston band onstage here Sunday for a couple songs.

Wonder if anyone saw this.

The Deadman kept Riverfest alive this year, even as disaster seemed to rain down from the heavens.

A series of weekend misfortunes that left Riverfest co-chairman Chris Paul exasperated was offset by strong revenues from Thursday night’s Theory of a Deadman concert, allowing the event to avoid a shortfall.

“Going into today, we had everything paid for,” Paul said Sunday evening as Ambush prepared to close off the festival.

“Everything we did today was gravy.”

Ambush, a local favourite, drew nowhere near the throng that packed the Deadman concert, but it was still a good crowd by local standards and there was plenty of enthusiasm.

It didn't hurt a bit that Ambush brought along a surprise guest – Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie, a fellow Kingstonian who showed up on stage later in the show.

"He came up with two songs with the band," said Paul. "I think a lot of people were surprised."

It was a festive final note to the 27th annual edition of Riverfest, which began with a strong Canada Day but quickly encountered setbacks comparable to seasoned organizers’ best battle scars.

“It wouldn’t be Riverfest without bad weather or something wild happening,” said Paul.

The festival’s July 1 opener was Riverfest’s best Canada Day ever, pulling in a record-setting $18,000 in admissions, he said.

Gloomy weather on Thursday let up, mercifully, just in time for the Theory concert, which drew more than 4,500 people, said Paul.

The only reason the show didn’t exceed 5,000 spectators and even reach organizers’ goal of 6,000 was the weather, Paul believes.

It would provide a cushion for the terrible blows to follow.

Things turned literally disastrous on Friday night, as a massive wind storm, described by witnesses as a microburst or even a mini-tornado, brought destruction from above.

The brief but furious storm, which brought down trees at Hardy Park, Kincaid Street and Perth Street, destroyed tents in the vendors’ village, brought a lighting scaffold by the main stage crashing to the ground and even blew some massive logs for the chain saw show into the river, said Paul.

“The whole sound tent was picked right up, smashed against the light pole.”

Organizers, reeling from the sudden damage, decided to open up the gates and make that evening’s Road Apples concert, a Tragically Hip tribute, a free admission show, said Paul.

Sharon Voskamp, a Kitchener-based tupperware vendor, was there when the storm struck and was briefly airborne.

“I was holding onto that one,” she said, pointing to a bent pole on her tent, “and at one point my feet were in the air.”

The tent “walked over,” said Voskamp, adding the wind blew it back five or six feet.

“I thought I was going for a swim.”

Friday night’s disaster was followed by a “mediocre” Saturday marred by cold weather, said Paul.

On the bright side, Saturday morning nonetheless saw more than 300 kids attend the Recorder and Times Search for Perch fishing derby.

The event, also sponsored by Canadian Tire Brockville owner Bill Rupert and run in partnership with city police and Just Fishing publisher “Big” Jim McLaughlin, saw every child walk away with a prize.

“It’s a tremendous success,” said organizer Chris Murphy.

But Saturday brought another disaster later in the day, with news that the bassist for tribute band British Invasion, the evening’s headline act, was involved in a serious car accident on the way from Montreal, said Paul.

Although the performer turned out to be OK, he was absent from the show, and since he was carrying half the costumes, it was a somewhat reduced – not to mention late – version of the act, said Paul.

Numbers were still not available for Sunday, when fate proved far gentler to Riverfest.

Paul is nonetheless crediting the Theory show for saving Riverfest from red ink.

While numbers were not yet in this morning, he was predicting this year’s edition will fall a few thousand people short of last year’s attendance of 26,000.

Today I got around to adding some more Hip stuff to my Man Cave Museum, mainly from our trip to Detroit a month or so ago. I tried to include them here in this post, but they seemed to be too big and got cut off, so I'll just post a link to my MySpace page...

HALIFAX, July 3 /CNW/ - Due to a serious family medical issue The
Tragically Hip will regrettably be unable to perform at this year's Virgin
Festival Nova Scotia on July 4th in Halifax at Citadel Hill. Virgin Festival
sends their best wishes to the band. Virgin Festival Nova Scotia will still go
ahead as planned, but for free.


"Our thoughts are with The Tragically Hip right now," says Andrew Bridge,
director of Virgin Festivals. "The Virgin Festival will still go ahead as
planned at Citadel Hill on July 4 - but now it will be free to anyone and
everyone. We continue to have an amazing line-up and it's sure to be a
fantastic day. We invite everyone to come along and enjoy the festival - but
be sure to come early so you're guaranteed a spot."

Virgin Festival will be reimbursing all current paying ticket holders and
guaranteeing their entry. All internet and phone purchases through Ticket
Atlantic will be automatically reimbursed to credit card - no action is
necessary. All other refunds including purchases made in person or through
Future Shop and futureshop.ca will be available at the Metro Centre Box Office
as of Tuesday, July 7 for all purchased Virgin Festival tickets.

Virgin Festival attendees are also encouraged to bring along a
non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Parker Street Food Bank. All
donations will be collected at the Festival gates.

Entry for non-ticket holders is subject to capacity.

Halifax Virgin Festival offering two-for-one ticket sales

Buy a ticket to this weekend’s Virgin Festival in Halifax and bring a friend for free to see “a cracking lineup” of musical acts, from iconic Canadian rockers The Tragically Hip to local boys In-Flight Safety, an event spokesman promised Thursday.

“It’s a special offer that’s recently been released,” Chris Baines said Thursday from Toronto of the new two-for-one deal. “It applies to people who already have a ticket as well.”

He said the special price isn’t because organizers are feeling the heat from competing summer concerts such as Paul McCartney and KISS — both taking place on the Halifax Common this month — but because they want to encourage as many Nova Scotians as possible to come out and enjoy the first ever Virgin Festival in their province.

And of course, let’s not forget the day-long concert includes American punk rockers The Offspring, who have chosen Halifax for their one and only Canadian performance with the annual festival, which originated in the United Kingdom about 14 years ago.

“It’s unique for Virgin Festival Canada,” Baines said of the Offspring appearance. “They were well up for it.”

He said organizers try to ensure all Virgin Festival shows “have a good-mix” of music including both A-list and local acts.

“We also tailor each festival to each market,” Baines said, with feedback on what local music fans want coming from websites such as Facebook and Twitter. “So with this one you’ve got very much a rockin,’ sort of indie-type band lineup.”

Baines said the festival this Saturday on Citadel Hill can accommodate about 15,000 people, adding ticket sales are going “strong.” He said at Virgin Festival music is centre stage, but added there’s a lot more going on, from onsite yoga and pole dancing to a traditional British red phone booth for a quiet place to make phone calls.
