All you Drive-By Truckers fans should check this out. Brilliant album! I've only listened to it twice through, and it's already made it's way into my top 5 for 2009. It's not much of a departure from his work in the Truckers, but the songs are just so bloody fantastic, it doesn't really matter what style they're played in. I'm amazed that some of these songs never made it onto any DBT records, but I suppose with a band that includes three songwriters, not all his stuff is going to make the cut. On a related note, I also picked up the Truckers' "Live in Austin Texas" CD/DVD combo, which is equally awesome. Hood also mentions on their website that they have a rarities/B-sides album coming out in September, and they're already in the studio working on the next official DBT album. Damn I love how quickly these guys work. What a great band.

it's been awhile since i've been to holland and i'm thinking about these shows...but does anyone have any insight as to how the tickets work for these shows? any help(past experiences) would be greatly appreciated
ie) if you live in canada what method did you choose? did you buy the membership? or is that an "automatic" thing that you have to first?
maybe because im in canada the ticketfast option is the best, rather than international mail...anyone have experience with the ticketfast system(ive never done it)

lastly...any helpful travel/hotel tips from people who attended holland shows in the past would be appreciated!!!!thanks!

Awesome show! Due to the sound curfew the show was kinda short, but it rocked. They played in one of those big Stampede tents downtown at the Wildhorse Saloon. HUGE turnout for this show, although it looked like most people were there just to do the traditional Stampede thing by dressing up like a freakin' doofus and getting absolutely hammered. But the folks that crowded the dance floor in front of the stage were really into it, with everybody dancing and singing their lungs out to just about every song. Danny mentioned that they've been writing and recording new material over the last few months, and they sprinkled the set with some of the new songs. Don't remember the acutal setlist, but here's what they played in no particular order:

As an obsessive compulsive completist, I've recently found several b-sides or bonus tracks that I've really enjoyed hunting down or stumbling across ("Hush", "Skeleton Park", "Night is for Getting", etc.). What I'm wondering is if there are anything else out there I've missed...

I'm mostly interested in high quality recordings like the aforementioned, so I'm proposing that along with the well educated Hipsters on this forum, we throw together a post detailling these fine hard to find gems.

I'm not really high on suicide. I have had a hard time in the past feeling legitimately sorry for/about those who think that's the only way out. And I don't mean to sound like I'm cheapening their problems. We have our issues and some of us have it a lot worse than others. I guess I'm just lucky to never have considered it, wanted it, or even been that close to it, despite some of the shit I've gone through. And maybe that's let me put the blinders on to issues surrounding it. I can handle that though.

But reading this today and seeing the reactions of my friends, those who knew him personally, those who knew him as the voice on the other end of their speakers, it's really shaken me a bit. He'd been at CFNY almost as long as I've been alive, but he had certainly played a roll in my development as a rock fan in Toronto in the mid-1990s, along with Brother Bill, Bookie, Allan Cross, Kneale Mann, Strombo, etc.

Having met him at the club nights and sporadic shows through the years, it was hard to find someone with a similar passion for rock and roll. Guys like him and Strombo, who at times could seem larger than life to pseudo-celeb struck teens, were so into their music, their bands, they were really guys just like us. They had camped out at the stage door. They had waited all night outside Ticketmaster for ducats. They knew the best feeling in the world on a Tuesday was cracking open the cellophane wrap, putting the disc in the slot, and pressing play. And they were on the radio, being able to share that emotion with a whole new group of people, who in turn would want to follow their lead. And a lot of us did.
