I'm happy to finally announce the plans for the new Smashing Pumpkins album.
Recording began yesterday, September 15th, 2009 on the new record which will be entitled 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope'. The album will feature 44 songs, 4 of which are now being recorded. My desire is to release a song at a time beginning around Halloween of this year, with each new release coming shortly after until all 44 are out. Each song will be made available absolutely for free, to anyone anywhere. There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won't have to sign up for anything, give an email address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.
We will however sell highly limited edition EP's (of 4 songs each times 11), and details of how those EP's will be made available are still being worked out. Because the songs themselves will be free, the EP's will be more like collectors items for the discerning fan who will want the art itself, along with the highest possible audio quality available. The EP's will be more like mini-box sets rather than your normal cd single. We may also offer other variations for sale, say for example a digital single with a demo version of a song. The commitment that is most important is the one I'm making to you: that the music of 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' will be available for free to everyone. All 44 songs: free for ALL.
When the entire album is finished, it will be compiled into a deluxe box set which will also be made available for sale. Those who have bought the EP's need not worry, as the box set will not be a recompilation of the limited edition pieces.
The story of the album is based on 'The Fool's Journey', as signified in the progress of the Tarot. It is my intention to approach this by breaking down the journey of our life here into four phases as made by these different characters; the Child, the Fool, the Skeptic, and the Mystic.
The music of 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' harkens back to the original psychedelic roots of The Smashing Pumpkins: atmospheric, melodic, heavy, and pretty.
I already have 53 songs written for the record, so I am quite confident that I already have much of the material that I would need to undertake such an extensive project. I am very committed to seeing this album through to its completion and very, very excited about the prospect of delivering new Smashing Pumpkins music to you in a unique and exciting way.
19............ it seems so long ago. Oh wait, it was.

Hey guys, I know this is last minute, but I've had an emergency and cannot attend this show. It would be a shame for there to be a single empty seat for this show. Face value, 100.00$. call me any time tonight or tomorrow

Last week me and my girlfriend eloped to Las Vegas.
Me and my (now) wife have known each other off and on since the second grade. Last Sunday we drove down from Calgary, stopped for the night in southern Utah, and then made it into Vegas the next afternoon. The next night we went to Freemont Street to buy our license while my girlfriend was holding a glass of booze she stole from a casino, and I was drink0nig rye out of a football. The next day we went to Chapel of the Bells for the ceremony while we were both horribly sick from a stack of bad pancakes we had for breakfast.
The next day we went to Arizona to see an old mutual friend from Jr High. After a few days of that we went to LA for Disneyland, since my wife had never gone. We got "Just Married" badges, I wore a top hat with Mickey ears, and she wore a veil with Minnie ears. We got treated like royalty all day, and we even got our own private boat for "It's a Small World". You don't know romance until you've made out to a hundred thousand shrieking dolls.
We drove back up through wine country and the giant redwoods. Now we're back home and trying to figure out how to tell our folks. We picked up a couple bottles of wine near Napa, so we're thinking of getting them drunk first.
THE TICKETS SAY NO RECORDERS I USUALLY DONT HAVE PROBLEMS AT THE JUB TAPING I WANTED TO TAPE ALL 3 NIGHTS, THINK I WILL HAVE TO GO STEALTH?
I am extremely pumped for the 3 shows in Hamilton.Unfortunately I missed all the spring shows and have not seen them play since last summer in Belleville. These shows will be my 22nd,23rd,24th time seeing them.I have upgraded my video gear(Sony HDR-XR100)and will be taping all 3 shows. Sept 30-row ff-seats 30-32 orchestra with my best friend of 30 years. We have seen the band a few x going back to the early 90s.Oct 2-row h-seat 121 first balcony, going solo for this one and should be great for taping being on the aisle and first row.Oct 3-pit cc-seats 12-18 with another good friend who has never seen the boys.We are bringing our wives so bring lots of Hankys Gord! Still hoping for Lets Stay Engaged(hint hint),but will be happy with whatever they play.Hope to meet up with some Hipbase members for some pre show beverages.HIP RULE!
Anyone heard anything about a tour for the new album? I am not talking about the few summer festival gigs they have recently done, but rather a new-album-headlining-indoor-venue-tour.
I'm going to fly over to Toronto to see them for the first time so I am itching for any information if anyone knows anything. Please satisfy me!
Have they ever played Double Suicide (Highway Girl) or Killer Shark Tank (NOIS) live?
It would be a hoot to heard one on those live once they hit Ottawa.
Just curious.

On the Team 1260 talking about his connection to hockey. Apparently for his night off in Edmonton, the Oilers brought him (and the rest of the band?) along with them for their pre-season game in Calgary.
Just curious if anyone here has their hands on a copy of this show.
I know it has been out there before, but I never grabbed it yet.
