I know I may be getting way ahead of myself here, but I think about it all the time. I know a few of you Hip Basers are crazy good at getting hunches and rumours of inside info. When do you think the Hip will be returning to studio/have another album out by? Do you think they'll have another 3 year gap?

Besides his albums was he sellin any band merch like t-shirts or posters at the shows?

I was visiting A Museum After Dark tonight trying to steal a line from an old Phantom Power rant called "Absolutes," which I'm really hoping I'm not making up or remembering as something it isn't. I remember the one line "I tell my friends the truth and everyone else can go to hell." Maybe I'm thinking a different rant. Maybe it's just disappeared. Regardless...

So I've decided to get sidetracked and re-read the entire "unreleased Hip songs" portion of Museum - and stumble upon this:

I'm wondering if any more light can be shed upon this - or more importantly, does a recording exist anywhere? I have the GD and the Rheos version from the late 90s, but if there's a fully band version of this, specifically one that actually pre-dates Miss America (one of the greatest Canadian albums of all time), I would really love to hear it.

Awesome show despite the rain. Gord went into the crowd during east wind. Opened with starpainters, closed with yer possessed. Also played (not in order thx to the rain!):

Great seeing this band, hoping to see em again in the fall. Very different than a hip show, but the songs were all great live. Also nice to see gord just playing tunes without all the theatrical stuff.

The Windsor Bluesfest is an outdoor music festival which has been running for 16 years. It took place on Windsor's beautifully manicured river walk located next to the Detroit River and nestled closely to the Caesar casino. The venue had about 1500 folding chairs with tables and a large standing room area at the back. The stage looked out over the river. All the seats were full with about 1000 fans in the back. Gord and his band weren't the headliners, but they had the largest crowd of any band playing last night. There was a palpable excitement in the air. The night was hot with a cool breeze coming off the river.

The show was about to start as the sun was setting. Two lake freighters cruised up the river just before Gord & TCOM took the stage. The captain of the first freighter saw the large group of people gathered and gave us two friendly blasts from the ship's air horn. It was dark after the first two songs and the river became alive with lighted dinner cruise ships and pleasure crafts chasing each other's wake through the night. Gord even commented, "What a beautiful view, and I'm not referring to the shadow of the GM Headquarters Building. We're lucky to have the river and this beautiful night."

Gord started the show by reciting a few lines from Insomniacs before the band launched into Canada Geese. I was able to get Gord's set list after the show. There was one small change from the planned set. Who By Rote was played spontaneously, while one of my favorite songs from Gord's new CD, Gone, was taken out. During Gord's last solo tour 7 years ago, he sat on a stool while playing and singing his songs. This time Gord was more active, but not like he has at a Hip show. Still, Gord had lots of fun walking back and forth playing along with his band mates. During East Wind, Gord walked off the stage strumming his guitar. The folding tables matched the height of the stage and Gord walked out about 10 ft., towering over the surprised fans around him. He even struck a surfer's pose as he balanced his weight on the tables. After the show, my cousin Cat from Windsor, my wife Carolyn and I were able to speak with everyone in the band. We had a great time! Now off to London!

Gord Downie and The Country of Miracles stopped by the Dakota Tavern to play a few tracks. Check out their performance on CMT at 10pm ET/PT TONIGHT!

Before anyone takes this too seriously, I'm mainly writing this out of boredom (and a bit of ouzo) and know that what I'm about to present is not accurate, but a bit interesting, if you really think about it.

For some reason, when listening to Speed River a couple days ago, I couldn't help but think that, in some ways, there are allusions to a drug relapse - either being tempted or dealing with the effects of one.

* "Give me a dose of the hard stuff" - hard drug?
* "Speed River take me away" - speed being another name for meth
* "You're visually stunning, I'm almost shivering" - dealing with withdrawal symptoms or being faced with temptation
* "This feels like I've been here before" - again perhaps reflecting upon the past abuses
* "If you asked me to, I'd relive it" - same as above
* "Away from this, away from this minute" - temporarilly escaping reality

Again, I was just having a bit of fun with this topic. Please don't judge it too harshly... often incorrect interpretations are more meaningful than the accurate ones.
