Posted on Tom's website yesterday:

"There have been rumblings and rumors. New music from Tom Waits, you say? Come to TomWaits.com on Tuesday August 23rd, and Mr. Waits himself will set the record straight."

I think I just had a small orgasm. I can't wait to hear what Mr. Waits has in store for us. New album and a tour to follow?? Please god, let it be true.

I was reading this article about the Saskatchewan band The Sheepdogs, who won Rolling Stone's "Choose the cover" contest, and I couldn't help but notice this comment, which is quoted directly from the actual Rolling Stone article:

"Just when I'm hearing the tune from Deliverance in my head, Scaggs meets me there. Yep, outside another bar, a guy is playing that theme on his banjo. It's apparently nothing compared to the awful-sounding locals testing their luck at an open mic night, nor the sound of the "awful yet extremely popular Canadian band The Tragically Hip emanating from the bar.""

Ouch. Was it "Coconut Cream" that he heard coming out of the jukebox?? Seriously though, it saddens me that the Hip never get any love from the big American music publications. Not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things. We all know how great they are, and I doubt that anybody is gonna care who the Sheepdogs are in a year's time. But as a fan, just once I'd like to see the Hip get a little respect south of the border.

Will it ever be played live? I was hoping for it to pop up in the acoustic sets in 2009...

I'm surprised there's no thread for this album. I picked it up on a whim a couple of months ago and hadn't listened to it much until recently. It is VERY good.

Discuss.

During their most recent string of concerts, The Hip chose not to play any songs from IBE. Perhaps they feel that IBE is their weakest album or maybe they think songs from this album just don't resonate with fans.

I find In Between Evolution a very listenable album and always enjoy it when a song or two from this album makes it into a setlist.

How would you rate the songs from IBE. Gus and Scar appear on Yer Favs and Nashville has a video. Are these the three best songs?

Rank the songs on IBE from most favourite to least favourite (ie. #1=most favourite --> #13=least favourite).

Here's how they appear on the album.

1. Heaven is a Better Place Today
2. Summer's Killing Us
3. Gus: The Polar Bear from Central Park
4. Vaccination Scar
5. It Can't Be Nashville Every Night
6. If New Orleans is Beat
7. You're Everywhere
8. As Makeshift As We Are
9. Mean Streak
10. The Heart of the Melt
11. One Night in Copenhagen
12. Are We Family
13. Goodnight Josephine

Ultimatley magnum ice cream has the final say to pick a winner, i personally think 2nd place will get it!

If we win:
Plan to travel the concert world, celebrate with friends and family,
and donate a combination $5000 to charities i've connected with: Save the Children, Nature Conservancy, Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, and the World Society Protection of Animals (WSPA)
