Thehip21 and I were talking tonight about a picture where Gord D is playing hockey and he shoots left. Anyone know about his handedness?
Do you think he'll try it again?
Do you think he'll try it again?
Anybody?
Does anyone else think that June is way too far away? I mean come on..june? why would the single come out on april 8th, and the album in june? 2 months?...it doesn't make sense.
Hi all. I'm Wendy, I'm from upstate New York. I've been a hip fan for a long time but only just started to really become obsessed with the guys thanks to an ex-boyfriend. I look forward to the new album and seeing them in concert when they tour next!
I'm also totally infatuated with Gord Downie.
hi y'all.
i'm johno' and i've joined up recently, made a few posts.
thanks to those of you who offered to get me some bootlegs, your quick response was not expected and well received (my this is sounding formal)
anyway, i've been following the hip since i first heard NOIS on chez106
out of ottawa, having grown up in star lake, ny, about an hour's drive away on the yankee side of the border. star lake has always been crazy for the hip. when i go back to visit i always hear it cranking at the blue spruce tavern on rt. 3 (if you're passing through, stop in and don't be afraid to request some).
i'd really like to know who the strummers are - i have written up some hip tabs and will post them if anyone wants (i already have put up the luxury and the dark canuck; please respond so i know i'm not wasting my time and your space! ) i'll take resquests if anyone's struggling with a tune, although i can't guarantee i won't be stumped as well.
anyway, i grew up watching cjoh and ckws and all that, "the beachcombers" "mister dress-up" and even the king of kensington. so just consider me an honarary canoe (i've been mistaken for one 'cos of my accent, we really say "eh" a lot in northern ny.) thanks for the great site - johno'
I lurk quite a bit arounf golf forums, and the norm is to make a site about golf just like people makes sites about the Hip. here are my websites:
(sorry for the shameless self promotion)

The Dark Canuck
the tragically hip - from In Violet Light
intro: [G][F#][C] x3
[G]This one is for you and it[F#] goes
on and [C]on and on
when [G]nothing seems to do
for [F#]when[C] the doubtless and the wrong
[G]ask; 'can I help you?
in that way [F#][C]that says, 'I can't'
or [G]claim we're all the same just inconsis[F#]tent[C]
or pre[Bm]tend all understanding turned out[C] to be pretense
then pre[G]tend the pretense of understanding
[C]how long does it take depends
[B7]You can cast your doubts tu[C]rn em inside-out
ha[D]ng em upside-down [C]
chorus:
til their art falls out [D][G5]
the short an[F5]swer's; for[C]ty-eight ho[G]urs
(same progression) let your heart all out
til your art fall out - the short answer's forty eight hours
let your heart all out summon up your power
interlude: hangs on C for a while, then C D C G
(progression like first verse)
If you need a good connection for drugs
or a strong tolerance for alcohol
too little religious education some pain threshhold
[Bm]if from the outside there's no de[C]mand for what you do
and in[G]side there's an army waiting for their
mar[C]ching orders from you
[B7]come sit on my swing-seat
co[C]me sit on my porch
after [D]ten at night, smoke your cigarettes
if you [C]like of course
[B7]you can cast your doubts turn[C] em inside-out
hang[D] em upside-down [C]
repeat chorus, then hang out on C til the next section:
[B]If we ever get home let's don't compare
let's relinquish all our holidays
and drive-in premieres
[C][D]if we ever get home[C]
(same progression) gonna have me three children
Apple, Zippo and Metronome
that's what I'm gonna name them [E]
and get celebrity sk[B]in (woo!)
the illusion of tough
I'm gonna talk about [E]nothing til nothing's e[B]nough
[C][D]if we ever get [C]home
[C][D] and the subject comes [C]up
this [C] War isn't [D]for children[C]
[C] War is nothing's[D] enou[E]gh
O' in the clo[Bm]uds of bl[G]ood at the end of JA[A]WS
in the mis[Bm]ted [G]cars honking their a[A]pplause
at the drive[Bm][C]-in double feat[A]ure
at the he[Bm]art of the d[G]ark enough [A]
to the chorus:
O' it's JA[D]WS and The Dark Canuck
should we stay for The Dark Canuck?
yea, everyone, hands up!?
who's for "The Dark Canuck'?
[C]I think we relinquished enough
and it's [Cm]still dark eno[Csus2]ugh [C]
[Cm]and it goes on and [G]on
B7: x21202
Csus2: x35x3x
F5 and G5: use the ones at the 8th & 10th frets
generally use closed position chords, i don't hear
al lot of open strings
B riff during "if we ever get home..."
