So Valentines Day is here, time to see who's got the most embarassing story.

I once, after being rejected like a Canadian Idol hopeful with less talent than a teapot, told a girl: "well okay... you're a beautiful girl, have a beautiful life...bye." At 18, I thought that was Sinatraesque baby!

Another time, after a first date that included dancing to "Bobcaygeon" under the stars, (Yeah, I'll be available for ass-kickings between 3 and 5) I was sure I'd be hearing from this girl again. To my great satisfaction, a co-worker came up to me the next day with the old: "Hey man, there's somebody out there to see you!"

Giddy, I headed out to see my surprise guest...

Her boyfriend.

He wasn't happy... maybe I shoulda told him he was beautiful.

Love's a dead beat friend who makes you pay for its movie ticket, an acquaintance who doesn't count the third putt, a buddy who throws the gum wraper out the window. Love sucks... but sometimes you're happy it's there.

Happy Valentines Day.

Even if you don't believe in Valentine's Day (the infamous Hallmark-Hershey-FTD conspiracy) you can't deny that love exists, regardless of what it actually is; neurochemical, compatibility or merely physical attraction or whatever.

So with the onset of February 14th (or National Getting-Laid Day) I figured I'd spin a discussion on the best love-song the Hip have come out with. No poll. Just opinions. The song might merely set the mood and not even really be considered a "love-song." It doesn't matter.

I'd have to say Impossibilium based mostly on the lyrics

O.K. so after years of prodding from the young lad, I finally relented and got a new puppy. Actually, I got him from the "pound", and I think he maybe full grown. (I can see a lot of Springer Spaniel in him, but he's classified a mutt. ) He was already named Bonneau, so we are going with that. Problem is, he appparently, "doesn't speak English". Since my French is textbook only, I am wondering, can he understand English? This is a stupid topic/question, I know, but he doesn't seem to be responding when we call or talk to him. If I say "Ici, Bonneau", he will happily come, but that's all. Any help, without the obvious "Boy, you are an idiot" responses, would be appreciated.

TORONTO (CP) _ Winnipeggers helped set a record for the quickest Juno Awards ticket sellout Saturday, snapping up all available tickets for the April 3 show in 16 minutes, organizers said.
``We anticipated a sellout, but this exceeded our expectations,'' Melanie Berry, president of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts, said in a release. ``We are very excited by the outstanding support shown by Winnipeggers.''
The previous record was set in 2003 when the event from Ottawa's Corel Centre featuring host Shania Twain sold out in 21 minutes.
This year's show from Winnipeg's MTS Centre will be hosted by Brent Butt of the TV show Corner Gas and will be televised by CTV. Performers will include The Tragically Hip, Neil Young, k.d. lang, k-os, Billy Talent and Simple Plan.

Got an email from Coldplay...it appears their new album is getting finished up and will be out by summer. I know a lot of people thing they are one-dimensional. Personally, I can't wait.

This is what basically came out..

Now that he's had a child, he realizes the fact that MJ showed him a book about genital diseases that it was wrong. MJ did NOT touch him and if his child was 13 or 14 and at MJ's house and MJ showed his kid that book, he would kick his ASS.

He also mentioned how MJ had a paranoid delusion that CF was going to write a book about him, that is how their relationship ended.

AND the fact that MJ talked about spending the night at CF's house, when he was 14, only if he had porn mags. MJ never spent the night but he did want to.

and finally...he's a witness for the prosecution. He will be in court in the next few weeks testifying against MJ

You've likely never heard of him, but Sean Avery of the LA Kings was asked what would happen if the NHL had to fold teams because of the lockout. He had this brilliant observation:

"I think they can eliminate a lot of Europeans who are mediocre and are taking a lot of jobs."

For the record, Mr. Avery had a grand total of 28 points in 76 games last year. That put him 10th on the Kings in points, which was behind such "mediocre European" teammates Alexander Frolov, Zigmund Palffy (who only played 35 games), Jozef Stumpel, Jaroslav Modry (a d-man, no less) and Lubomir Visnovsky (ANOTHER d-man).

In fact, the only European on the Kings to play as many games as Avery and not get as many points was Mattias Norstrom - a d-man who happens to be the team's captain.

So, in Avery's world, contraction will cost "mediocre Europeans" their jobs, but there will still be jobs for less-than-mediocre bums from Pickering.
