I was listening to this disc at work tonight for the first time in probably two years, and I almost forgot how great it is. It's definitely one of the best efforts of their career, and it also features one of my favorite album covers of all time. Nothing beats the joy of rediscovering an album you haven't listened to in a while. I love it!

actually not that bad of a show...the across the universe featuring bono, steven tyler, velvet revolver norah jones, brian wilson was sort of interesting..green day kicked ass, and the janis joplin tribute with melissa etheredge and joss stone(what a great young(and very attractive/sexy) talent) was unreal.

I've been trying to get my hands on this DVD for a while now, and I finally found a copy today at A&B Sound for the bargain basement price of $19.99! It's a fantastic film. Easily one of the best music documentaries I've ever seen, right up there with Gimme Shelter, Don't Look Back, The Last Waltz, and Buena Vista Social Club. And not only do you get the film (with director's commentary), but you also get a second disc with over 70 minutes of additional footage and 17 extra songs. It's freakin' brilliant. As a Wilco fan, you couldn't ask for much more.

One can only hope that the upcoming Hip DVD will have this much stuff crammed onto it. Doubtful, I know, but a guy can dream, can't he?

I teach gr.7 and you'll be glad to know that the HIP are considered enjoyable by young people who give them a chance despite the misconception that young people aren't open to the HIP's music. They are not exposed to it because they watch Much Music for their music.... However, not counting the students I've taught with much older brothers or sisters or very young parents who are HIP fans and pass it on to them, I have exposed these young minds to the HIP in music class and in English (poetry). The other day I came into the class for lunch duty and they had taken my In Between Evolution CD and started playing it. I was just in time to make sure "It Can't Be Nashville Every Night" didn't come on (re: the opening lyrics are not grade level appropriate) but clearly these 12 year olds love "Gus" and "Vaccination Scar." They also can't get enough of "New Orleans Is Sinking", "Poets", and "Something On." When I was in high school, the HIP were bigger than any band or artist. I don't know if that will ever be the case again the way the music industry is now but it's refreshing to know that kids can realize the talent and the power behind the HIP without it being fed to them by Much Music and the Powers That Be in the biz. However, do you think that In Between Evoloution is the most radio-friendly HIP album since Day for Night?
