Is it really the best Hip poster ever? Well you decide, but I got your attention right?



Greetings Hip fans,

In 2012 I created a Tragically Hip poster, put it online, and was soon bombarded by online messages from people wanting a copy. Because the images on the poster were not my own, I didn't end up sending anyone a poster. I emailed the Tragically Hip to ask them if they would consider using the poster, or a variation of it on their website. I sparked the interest of their webmaster but nothing came of it.

On November 16, 2013 I met the Hip's guitarist, Paul Langlois at one of his solo shows in Halifax and I personally handed him a poster along with a letter requesting that something be done with it. Paul thought it was pretty cool and showed it to Rob Baker, however, I didn't hear back. I guess it was a shot in the dark but was worth a try.

Now, after the release of the Hip's most recent album, I redesigned the poster and I want to make it available now regardless of my previous efforts. The poster is now 18 x 24. I put all the text on the right to basically fill up space.

City to live-stream The Tragically Hip's Kingston show in Market Square

Kingston will celebrate The Tragically Hip’s ‘Man Machine Poem’ with a live-stream concert in Springer Market Square.

In partnership with the Downtown Kingston BIA!, Kingston Accommodation Partners and Kingston Police, the event will feature concert-quality audio-visuals and screening designed to expand the capacity of the Square into surrounding streets for the live-streamed concert in Springer Market Square on Saturday, Aug. 20.

As well, August 20 will be proclaimed “The Tragically Hip Day”.

“The Tragically Hip are an iconic Canadian band who have made tremendous contributions to our country and the Kingston community in particular, through their music and philanthropy,” Mayor Bryan Paterson said in a release. “We look forward to welcoming The Hip home and giving Kingston fans the opportunity to show their love and support of the band.”

The free public celebration is open to all and starts at 8 p.m.. Rides on Kingston Transit will be free after 4 p.m. on the Saturday, as well as offering express service.

“This event is a small gesture to allow our community to come together in a showing of our support,” Mayor Paterson said. “This celebration is going to show what The Tragically Hip means to our community and what I think Kingstonians expect. This event is going to be big and unlike anything we’ve seen before in Market Square.”

My initial theory was that very few hip fans (only the travellin men/women with escape @ hand) would be shelling out the outrageous asking prices following the ticketmaster debacle.

With just over a month to go I hope some scalpers are starting to get antsy.

For the kingston show, Currently 350 tickets are listed on stubhub. The cheapest is $379 usd per ticket BEFORE fees. Everything <$550 usd is behind the stage.

There are 48 Kingston floors listed on stubhub: 4 tickets in FLR1, 9 in FLR 4, 12 in FLR 5, 19 in FLR 6, and 4 in FLR 7 & 9. Asking prices between $900-2500USD, with a couple of singles slightly cheaper.

If stubhub supplies sold ticket data, I am not familiar enough with their scum site to access it.

For some comparison, here are all of the ticket auctions that have SOLD on eBay. 20 in total. Sorted highest to lowest:

Was kind of hoping there might be a little warm-up gig like we saw during NFPA at The Super Market. I guess with circumstances as they stand that's not going to happen. Plus could you imagine how many people would come out to something like that? Really enjoyed going to those few days in Kensington Market though and chatting with the band after each mini set.

I was a long time member of the forum but haven't been around since the release of Now For Plan A. Unfortunately I couldn't log in with my old name for whatever reason, maybe it was deactivated through inactivity. But that's all besides the point.

Every year when the new fantasy hockey season rolls around I name my team after a Hip song. This year I wanted to go with some Hip lyrics instead of song names. In the past I've named a few of my teams...
Silver Jets
Dark Canucks
Wheat Kings

There are a few other options if I were to go with songs names like the Dire Wolves or Killer Whales Tanks etc but like I said, I'm hoping to find a good lyrical name and would like all your input. So far I've come up with...
Muddy Old Skulls
War Room Janitors
Sober Zoo Lions
Sopping Wet Shoes

Any other clever suggestions? I'm entering the first year of a keeper league so I'll have to keep this name for a few years at least so I want it to be good. Let's hear em!

I was fortunate to score a single ticket for Ottawa in the fan pre-sale an plan to tape the show. However, I've only taped in Halifax before and wanted to find out from people who have taped there if security has been a problem.

Primarily wondering about the metal detectors and if you just put your gear in the tray with no issues?

Many of us have said it before but The Hip really need a full-length documentary film. If this is indeed the last chapter for the band (god I hope GD does rally and have many many more years etc with his family and the band).....but if this is it, I hope someone is documenting the rehearsals, the thoughts and stories of GD and the rest of the guys on the long and wonderful career they have had. If I was a film maker this is a lovely story about 5 high school buds making good...and captivating the country they come from. Other than Mercury, Springsteen, Vedder and at times Bono I can't think of a better showman, poet, leader, unique voice and all around frontman than Gord Downie. Those of us who get it.....are really lucky. I think a documentary would put all of it in perspective and get all of that wonderful music to not only us fans but to the curious folks who never quite jumped on board. Let the story be told.... :thumb:
