Looks like Paul is taking over the setlists for the tour!
He also said that there won't be an opening act on tour, but perhaps a DJ. Ugh. https://twitter.com/tthbaker/status/745075338305118208
Does anyone think Gord will do some kind of interview before the tour starts?
I mean, despite the situation, it feels weird that there's been zero press for the actual album. Not that I expect him to sit there and talk about the new songs, but...
Just curious what everyone's views are on this.
Very pleased to see MMP go to number one on Canadian album sales charts with 20,000 copies sold. The link below reports this as being the Hip's fifth number one album but I doubt the veracity of that figure. I'm almost certain every album from Road Apples through Music at Work went to number one, and likely one or two more from the 2000's did as well.
Another interesting number as well: The article pegs the estimated gross of the upcoming tour at 24 million.

Here is a poem my son wrote for Gordie. My one regret is that I never got to take him to see them live.
A Perfect Time For Courage (Eulogy for Gordon Downie, Canadian Angel)
Almost a week has past
Since it was announced you will die
A day like that was always destined to come
But I am still not ready
Gordon Downie I want to write your eulogy now
And maybe you will see it
And understand how you've changed the life
Of this child of America
Gordon Downie you have made me scared
And if any sort of courage is going to come
Let it come now
I can't think of a worse time than this
Why must all my heroes leave me here?
But I understand that before a person becomes a saint they must perform miracles after their death
The three words I would use to describe you, you already know
Gordie you are a man
A machine
And a poem
The first song I remember learning how to sing, you beckoned me in from the wicked prairie winds
And now I just hope that when I hear the news of the final words I smile
And it will be fine
But Gordie
I have avoided all the trends and clichés a young man of 20 can
I have sat in parking lots and coffee shops and witnessed beautiful things continuing as long as this world will let them
But it is you who has traveled to the hundredth meridian
The man who can get behind anything
The man who stood neck deep in the lake and yelled "you are not the ocean" and refused to swim
I learned that I must be ready to live my life because we get no dress rehearsals
I learned to be honest with who I am because no one's interested in the things I didn't do
Gordon Downie you are the machine that powered my childhood so this poem is for you
And when you die Heaven will truly be a better place
And one day I will meet you there
But until then
I will go to Bobcaygeon
And watch those constellations
Reveal themselves
One star
At a time

The song never celebrated, never openly congratulated, never a radio single, never acknowledged as a staple of the catalogue, but yet ranks high on your personal list
For me, it's The Kids Don't Get It
I'll stop to cry into the curtains and, like the greats before me, go on stage.

I'm assuming there is a reason why Get Back Again was never officially released - seems like a hit single if there ever was one...many of you on this Board know a lot more about the band than I do, so any story behind that song would be appreciated...Ive loved it for so long
While on the topic, what are your favourite tracks that have been unreleased?
I read in The Guardian this evening that the final Hip show in Kingston is going to air live outside in Victoria Park in Charlottetown!! Is this happening anywhere else?
I didn't see a dedicated In Sarnia thread ...
So, um, problem guys. After a solid week of listening to MMP, it has come to this: In Sarnia is my first skipper.
Don't get me wrong, still think it is good, but I'm just too anxious to get to the other stuff to wait. Here, in the Dark is just a tantalizing push of a button away.
I think the main problem is that it is incredibly difficult to sing along to.

The riff at the 30 second mark really reminds me of a classic Hip riff...originally I thought it was from Grace Too but now I'm thinking maybe the 40 second mark of Fully Completely? Anyone else hearing this?
