I know that aspects of the lyric deal with the Ice Storm of the late 90s in Ontario. But this doesn't seem to explain the whole lyric, e.g., 'standing at the station,' etc..

Okay, her is the scene, hot hot summer night, say 2:00am pitch black, you're driving down an old country road, all the windows are down, a light warm breeze flowing through, not another car in sight as you drive, your headlights are the only lights for miles.....................what song do you pop into you CD player??

Mine is a no brainer, Robert Plant "Big Log" from Principle of Moments. That song almost puts me in a trance like state..............maybe not he best when you are behind the wheel but thats my choice!

Okay, I know it's not polite to poke fun, and anybody who's ever had to read a teleprompter knows it aint easy... but damn, this guy is the greatest sportscaster ever:

Was watching my season one KITH dvd last night, and in scott thompson's "Manny Coon" skit, he makes reference to a "german shepard hobo". Is this some old canadian tv show? I say this b/c at the end of a certain TPB's episode, Ricky is watching some tv show in his car with a german shepard wandering around with a cheezy song in the background.

Any ideas?

Night One of North By Northeast saw me see among others, Brian Borcherdt's side project Holy Fuck. All I can say is wow. If you like electronic music somewhere in the realm of Fatboy Slim, The Faint or the Chemicals, then these are the guys for you. I have never been blow away so much by a band I had never heard of before.

Tonight is tenitively the Gladstone, but that could change. As well there are "Special Guests" listed at the Riv tonight, so that could be anyone really from Blue Rodeo to the Sam Roberts Band. Anybody else taken part in the NXNE festivities this year?

I was just looking in the Hipbase song stats section and something jumped out at me, Born In the Water has only ever been played once, 1990-04-11 in Montreal to be exact, now thats going back a while. I know there was some controversy with the song at that time, Im not familiar with the story maybe someone could shed some light on it perhaps? I can only speculate that may be one of the reasons it never got played again, or maybe it was just forgotten and left behind like so many others (38 Years Old, Highway Girl, Another Midnight and Trickle Down come to mind) Or could it be it just got lost in the mix of all the great early Hip classics ie: NOIS, Blow, Little Bones, Cordelia, Boots or Hearts, Fight and all the rest of the mainstays of Hip setlists at that time. Does anyone know? Im not one to try and decipher lyrics and find deeper meanings to songs like some others (dame) , I dont have the time nor the patience, I find it a frustrating task to say the least. Some lyrics may be obvious in their meaning but like people have said with Gord Downie you never really know. All that being said, I really like BITW and its my feeling that this song should be resurrected and start being played again as loud and vigorous as it was meant to be played. It is one of the more rocking songs in the Hip catalogue and would sound great live, I usually include it on all my Hip cd-r discs. A forgotten song? Not here.. :thumb:
