  How well will it sell?

I've been curious about how well this new box set will sell. On the one hand, the Hip are consistently referred to as Canada's "favourite" band, but I know their sales are way down from the nineties. How well do "greatest hits" albums usually do in comparison to a band's other albums? Does it matter if this sells a lot? Will the hardcore fans avoid the new album because they already have all the songs (save two). Will the casual radio listener still care about the Hip? I hope so....

Guys,

Nov. 10 is the 30th Anniversary of the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". What I propose is that at 7pm (eastern), 6pm (central), we all drink a beer to remember the 29 guys that died in the cold waters of superior back in 1975.

What do you say?

Josh brought up an excellent point in the trading forum, and I figured I'd post this here as well to ensure most folks see it. We need a list of "must have" recordings so that those of us who have had the pleasure of hearing The Holy Trinity can pass that experience along to others. Also, a lot of newbies are wondering where they should start and what they should download, a list would help them as well.

  The Hip and my iPod

I was just updating my iPod (it plays music files for those who have never heard of one Tongue ) and I realised that The Tragically Hip have completely taken over my 4gb iPod. It is at capacity with 456 songs, of which 210 are by The Tragically Hip. This translates to 46% of the songs, or 14.8 hours of unique Hip music :oops: .

Does this mean I have an addiction? Do I have to go to meetings?


Anyone else have ridiculous amounts of Hip on their digital devices?

as in whats the worst case scenario? nearing 2 months since i got something on ebay from a german dude :x lol, and was contemplating reporting non-payment with paypal...perhaps i should have done this already Cry . not too big a deal as the item was less than 10 bucks...what is a big deal is that it was a road apples vinyl....woulda been a sweet deal Sad

  Standardized labeling of files for live shows

Hey folks. I'm a bit of a newbie, so forgive me if this topic has been covered. I did a search, but to no avail. Anyhoo, with all the torrents out there on hiptracker and bt.etree, I've noticed something peculiar about the live .shn and .flac show files circulating: there doesn't seem to be any standardization when it comes to naming the files.

I'm also a huge Dave Matthews Band fan and, as I'm sure you're all aware, DMB allows taping of their shows. A number of individuals within the DMB community have brought standardization to naming the files for the shows. For example, dmb1993-10-03.dsbd.shnf (or for .flac we might get dmb2005-09-07.akg481.flac16) gives us the band, the date of the show, the source and the file type. the venue is never listed because the .txt file will invariably have that information.

I think that this type of file naming allows people who collect live shows to keep track of everything they need to know about the show they have obtained. Plus it looks a lot cleaner. I think it would be great for the Hip community to do the same. For example, when a person uploads a show for torrenting, the file name could be labeled as tth1992-05-16.sbd.shnf (as an aside, none of the shows I've used as examples are necessarily actual shows). I know some people do this, which is cool, but it would be helpful if everyone did this.

Anyways, just some ramblings from a guy who's trying to assist with the proliferation of live shows from the greatest band Canada has ever produced.
