Hey everyone,

We are very happy to introduce our ‘First In Line’ ticket service for registered users of <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thehip.com">www.thehip.com</a><!-- w -->

How it works is, when The Tragically Hip are touring, as a benefit and perk to registered users of <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thehip.com">www.thehip.com</a><!-- w --> an allotment of tickets for most North American shows will be available for purchase before the tickets are available to the public. Each registered user is limited to four (4) tickets for each show made available. Please note that each show’s allotment is finite, so not every order is guaranteed to be filled. For a full list of rules and regulations please read the ticket policy.

To launch the ‘First In Line’ service, on Friday February 17th, at 10:00am, sales are open to registered users of <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thehip.com">www.thehip.com</a><!-- w --> for the band’s yet to be announced to the public, (let alone on sale to the public), show in Toronto at the beautiful downtown setting of Historic Fort York on Saturday June 24, 2006. Joining The Hip for the show will be The Weakerthans and The Sadies.

As we anticipate demand for these tickets to be fast and furious, and the tickets are sold on a first come, first serve basis, you are encouraged to become a registered user today, so when 10:00am rolls around on Friday morning, you can simply log in, click and purchase knowing you have tickets before the show is both announced and on sale to the public. In other words, allow time for your registration at <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thehip.com">www.thehip.com</a><!-- w --> to be processed fully, which involves an email to you and you confirming.

Hope everyone is enjoying the Song Of The Day feature on the site. So far response has been great and stay tuned for more exciting content related announcements soon.

The Canadian music industry should be ashamed of themselves. This is easily the worst list of Juno noms I've seen in years. Those Canadian Idol jackasses received a whopping 8 nominations, while everybody's favorite band Nickelback got 6. The Single and Songwriter of the Year categories aren't too bad...but the rest of it is absolute garbage. I shudder at what the rest of the world thinks of our music scene when they read that list of nominees. We have so many incredible and talented bands/artists in this country making some of the most beautiful, unique, and original music in the world, and this is the only list the Junos could come up with?? What a joke. Canada's music scene will never get the worldwide respect it deserves if the industry doesn't put down the crack pipe and stop shining the spotlight on such god-awful music.

Hi all. I'm currenltly trying to pierce together an awful paper on the intersections of post-modern language theory (Derrida, Foucault, Saussure etc) and the concept of cybersexuality (gender in cyverspace and it's presence/absence). Does anyone have any good resources on bare-bones post-modernism? Thanks in advance.

... now that the Hip are in the studio, bringing civilization as we know it to an end by recording with Bob Rock (begin endless bickering thread elsewhere, please)....

Every time we get a new album these days, we also get a mod club show with phone in Q & A and also a number of usually moronic questions posed by some DJ from 102.1. Wouldn't it be cool if we could arrange a Hipbase Q&A?

What I'm thinking is that we could combine our brain cells here to come up with a set number (a dozen or so) really smart, incisive questions, and put them to the band, and then post the responses here for all to read.

We only really need to do two things to make this happen, not necessarily in this order:
1) collect our 1078 questions and winnow it down to 12 or so by a brutal and arbitrary process that will alienate everyone and create fodder for eternal flame wars.
2) get an agreement from the Hip themselves to participate, which shouldn't be a problem as they know that this is where their most rabid and fanatical fans hang out, and I'm sure they wouldn't mind answering a couple of questions each when a new album comes out.

I'm throwing the idea out here now to see if it runs up the flagpole, or whatever. The timing of actually doing it should be following the new album release.

so what do people think?

PS for MAv: in fact, the questions and answers could be posted at thehip.com, and announced in advance: go to the hipbase to propose your question, questions will be selected by a committee of arbitrary power-trip freaks, then responses posted here, etc....

Does anyone know a decent site that stream Hip live shows? Can't find one....

Back in 02/03, I recall posting something snooker related but there was very little interest, if any at all. I'm posting now to offer up copies of my collection to any hardcore fans out there.

Since November, I've been archiving a friend's VHS master collection of classic snooker matches onto DVD. I've compiled about 20 discs of footage from the late 1980's. As well, I've burned highlights from last month's Masters tournament (the last time ever at Wembley) and the UK Championships from six weeks ago. I've also made two compilation discs of 147 maximum breaks.

Steam Whistle recently played host venue for a Fundraiser for the Canadian Olympic Women's Hockey Team. Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo fame, among others, performed for the crowd who dined on delights prepared by celebrity chefs.

Kathryn Humphreys of City TV and Johnny Fay, Drummer for the Tragically Hip were among the guests. The event raised over $72,000 to help fund flights to Turin for the parents of the girls. It was great to be part of this amazing evening.
