HL:Actor Don Knotts, veteran television actor, dead at 81
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Don Knotts, the skinny, lovable nerd who kept generations of television audiences laughing as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show, has died.
He was 81.
Knotts died Friday night of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, Calif., said Paul Ward, a spokesman for the cable network TV Land, which airs The Andy Griffith Show, and another Knotts hit, Three's Company.

Hey Everyone,

I'm a grad student working on a project about emotional reaction to great rock and roll music.

Also being a crazy hip fanatic, I chose them as a good example of this topic. I'm looking for a copy of MuchMusic Intimate and Interactive where I seem to remember a fan asking the band a question and being so overcome with emotion he starts crying. Also during the same show, I believe Gord Downie invites a fan up on stage to sing along with him to Cordelia. I used to have a tape of show, but can't seem to find it and would desperately like to include it in my project.

Downloading it would be perfect, but I'd also be happy to send a tape and paid postage, or negotiate a trade if there's something I can offer.

  Another Tragic Hit and Run in Scarborough

It was a heartbreaking act of mercy that will likely never escape the memories of those involved. After a mounted police officer and his horse were knocked down in a hit and run Friday night, officers were forced to shoot the animal, which was enduring excruciating pain.

The tragic incident took place at Morningside and Kingston Road just before 7pm.

The officer was treated at the scene and according to Chief Bill Blair suffered cracked ribs and is recovering in hospital.

“There was a lot of commotion around the horse and the officers I guess did as much as they could. And then we all heard two loud gunshots,” said stunned witness Jane Evans.

Duane Simpson was in the immediate area when the unthinkable happened.

“Next thing I know they were flying in the air doing summersaults from the van hitting them, and me and my friend rushed over to help the officer and the horse and neither of them were moving.”

Witnesses say two police horses and their officers were crossing from the southbound side of the Lawrence to the northbound side when they were struck by a van going westbound.

Police located the abandoned suspect car, a dark coloured minivan, and found horse hair clearly embedded in the shattered window

The last time a horse had to be put down was four years ago.

“These horses mean a lot to us,” said Staff Insp. Bill Wardle. “No one would be in the Mounted Unit if they didn't like horses and it was difficult.”

Chief Bill Blair was quick to respond to the tragedy.

“This is a devastating incident for the officers involved and for all of our officers. We lost an important partner tonight,” he said.

“The officers of the Mounted Unit that had to experience this and make the very difficult decision to end this animal's suffering, they were devastated by the loss and it's a very serious offence and we're investigating this very aggressively.”

So I picked up this album today on a whim during my lunch break, because I figured anything by Tom Wilson is sure to be a quality piece of work...and I was right! This is an absolute jewel of an album by one of Canada's most talented and underrated songwriters. The disc was recorded in Nashville, and that folky/bluesy/country vibe is all over the record. It also features an impressive array of guest musicians including Garry Tallent of the E Street Band, Rosanne Cash, and Colin Linden (who also produced the album).

If anybody here is a fan of either Junkhouse, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, or Tom's last solo outing "Planet Love", I highly recommend checking this album out. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I get the impression that the folks behind the commercials for the Fort York show are really happy with the new thehip.com as it's mentioned in every commercial. Kudos to you, MAv!

I know that since a link to the tracker was included on thehip.com, memebership has nearly doubled.
