I'll start.

Got stopped for speeding the other day...
I thought that I could talk my way out of it until the cop looked in the back seat.

And I'll also throw in a joke for good measure.

Paddy the Irishman died in a fire and was burnt pretty badly.
The morgue needed someone to identify the body;
his two best friends, Seamus and Sean were sent for.
Seamus went in and the mortician pulled back the sheet.

Seamus said "Yup, he's burnt pretty bad. Roll him over".

So the mortician rolled him over.

Seamus looked and said "Nope, it ain't Paddy".

The mortician thought that was rather strange but dismissed it.
He then brought Sean in to identify the body.

Sean took a look at him and said, "Yup, he's burnt real bad.
Roll him over".

The mortician rolled him over and Sean looked down and said,
"No, it ain't Paddy".

The mortician asked, "How can you tell?"

Sean said, "Well, Paddy had two arseholes."

What? He had two arseholes???" said the mortician.

"Yup, everyone knew he had two arseholes.
Every time we went into town, folks would say,
"Here comes Paddy with them two arseholes...."

I just have to say that this video is awesome. I've never seen one that the person filming actually gets Robbie jamming just at the right time and films it all. I was at that show front row in front of Robbie, as I watched it I felt like I was back there all over again. Thanks DIGVDOGG!

Ok, I'm not looking to cause an uproar. I'm not looking to stir the pot and get everyone all riled up. So if this turns into a blaze in a fireworks factory, I'm sorry in advance.

I frequent another forums that is mostly made up of an older generation (40+) group of Americans. Time and time again, I've been labeled the "young canadian hippie" that's far too liberal for their likings. We've managed to discuss everything one shouldn't discuss on online forums: politics, wars, Mexico/American fences, etc. This is now the new thing we're chewing on:

Someone posted the link and told everyone to "Wake Up". Well, it was my opinion that the website wasn't exactly painting the Muslim religion in the best light. And I tried to explain that perhaps not all Muslims were terrorist extremists.

Anyway, I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about this site and sites like it. They (members of the forums) seem to be very quick to tell me I'm crazy. Maybe it's a generation gap. I just think it's propaganda.

  back up on tour

Hi,
I'm going to the show tomorrow night at the Commodore. Does anyone know who the back up band is or if there is one? Usually the back up comes on around 10-10:30 but on the CFOX website it says the Hip comes on at 10pm.

For their 11th album Canada’s national heroes team up with über-producer Bob Rock.

"When Bob Rock produced Metallica’s self-titled black album, there were cries of sell-out from the fans. Now that he’s at the boards for World Container, could there be a similar backlash for The Tragically Hip?

One listen to the lead-off single "In View" reveals the most optimistic track the Hip have laid down since "Fireworks." The album kicks off with the power-pop crunch of "Yer Not the Ocean," and closes with the title track, a sentimental piano ballad. It sounds like Rock is intent on breaking the Hip in the States, despite years of flying under the American radar.

Don’t worry, World Container still feels like a Hip album – it’s steeped in Canadian geographic references, nods to hockey and an overwhelming tension – it’s just dressed up with a lot of studio finery. For the first time ever, drummer Johnny Fay plays rim shots, Bobby Baker’s guitar is drenched in echo and more than once the Hip tap into ska, flamenco and dance-rock variations for the break down.

Lyrically Gord Downie has branched out, too. Some of his poetry is downright syrupy on the page ("Love (Sic)" and "Last Night I Dreamed You Didn’t Love Me" being the prime examples). Much of the record seems preoccupied with his relationship with his daughters, making for passionate delivery. Downie’s voice has the gravitas to make it work and when he experiments with self-harmonies, the payoff is astounding. Lest you think he’s gone soft, check out the stunning album standout "The Kids Don’t Get It," complete with gut-wrenching wail and boundless irony.

World Container may not have the consistency or impact of 2004’s In Between Evolution, but by pushing themselves (with or without Rock’s influence) the Hip have made a record that shows remarkable growth, even for a band that has shed its bar band status. It doesn’t always work, but World Container is fearless, angry, tender and engrossing, not to mention a great rock record."

I pretty much agree with everything he mentioned, except for the part about WC not having as much consistency as their last album. I absolutely love IBE, but I think WC is a more focused effort and has more impact than it's predecessor.
