Another great new release for '06!!!! He's a little heavier and angrier(?) on a couple of the songs, but for the most part it's that beautiful, mellow and haunting stuff that the first CD had so much of...His duets with Lisa Hannigan are heavenly....Damien proves his first CD wasn't a fluke!! 4 stars out of 5

... :thumb: hock: ..BRILLIANT....Hearing these classics in a whole new light..the sequencing is perfect, and the way George Martin and his son have intertwined Beatles songs with each other is eargasmic....Highlights early on for me..... the accoustic While My Guitar, with a string score by Martin...brought a tear to my eyes...Lady Madonna with a different intro, Strawberry Fields, Blackbird mixed with Yesterday, and I Am The Walrus morphing into I wanna hold your hand...

A lot of Sabres fans in the NHL thread are feeling pretty high and mighty these days, so I thought I would take the pulse of Hip Nation and maybe bring them back to earth a bit ...

The line in ATHM, is it about the animal or the city? Let's decide for all time. On the one hand, it's counterpointed with Hengelo, which is a city in the Netherlands; on the other hand the song is about the great plains, which used to be populated by many, many buffalo.

There's no "both" option -- life's full of hard decisions.

A price spent for a Tom Thomson oil sketch led the way at a record-shattering Sotheby's auction in Toronto yesterday that saw total sales of $7.4 million, about $2.5 million more than expected.

An anonymous collector paid $934,000 for Burnt Area With Ragged Rocks, a small, melancholic canvas showing the artist's beloved Algonquin Park. The pre-sale estimate for the work was in the $150,000 to $250,000 range.

Winnipeg dealer David Loch won the bidding war for the small canvas with a bid of $810,000 (the final price includes the buyer's premium). Loch represented Ken Thomson at auctions for years until the billionaire press baron's death in June. Loch's aggressive bidding this time suggests the buyer might be David Thomson, Ken Thomson's son and an avid collector himself. He was unavailable for comment yesterday.

The previous record for a Thomson painting was the $428,000 paid in a 2005 auction for his Autumn, Algonquin Park. Its pre-sale estimates were in the $200,000 to $300,000 range.

Burnt Area With Ragged Rocks originally sold for $200, according to a well-placed dealer taking part in yesterday's sale.

"The reason the Thomson did so well now is because there are so few of his works still around to buy," said Sotheby's president David Silcox, a Thomson scholar who co-authored the book Tom Thomson: The Silence and the Storm with the late artist Harold Town in 1977. "Besides, it is a great painting."

Anyone see this new CD from Jerry Lee Lewis yet?

I never heard about it until I walked past it in the music store. 21 songs featuring a ton of guest musicians, Jimmy Page, Mick Jagger, John Fogerty, Robbie Robertson, Keith Richards, Clapton, Springsteen, Buddy Guy, Merle Haggard, Neil Young, etc.

I picked it up out of curiosity, its actually quite good. 71 and he can still play a hell of a piano...........favorite track so far is his duet with Keith Richards on "That Kind of Fool". Keith's voice lends to that song perfectly........

WOW! Was anybody else there? The show fucking rocked! It was amazing, unreal!

The first 2 bands were horrible, but The Trews rocked the Metro Centre, they were awesome! They left the stage around 11pm, and then there was about an hour wait. Right around midnight the lights dimmed and the place just went nuts. Robin Fink then teased us with a little sample of the opening lick to "welcome to the jungle" (which was like the best thing ever!), before Axl emerged and the party started. Hit after hit after hit, the band sounded incredible, Axl sounded great (although he was drownout a bit by the band on some songs) & he put on a hell of a show. The man never stopped running the entire 2+ hours, it was awesome. They played pretty much everything you'd want them to, and the new songs sounded great too!.

Highlights for me, man i don't know where to begin. Seeing the Trailer Park Boys on stage, with Axl & Bubbles sharing a mic singing "liquor & whores" was great...and i absolutely loved the guitar solo by Ron Thai where he was on stage all by himself & played the entire "don't cry". Before that he started his solo by playing O'Canada, with the entire building standing & singing along.

Patience was probably the highlight for me though, followed closely by Nightrain, which ended the main set.

I had a blast, and all i can say is all you folks out there which hold some kind of grudge against Axl and do nothing but diss the man & refuse to go see them because they aren't the real GN'R....well you're all missing out on one hell of a rock show!

tth have played 770 concerts and giftshop has been performed 146 more times than blow at high dough. would not have guessed that

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So slumbered I, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Ranger, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts…
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,

My Gramps died in Europe on a day in December,"

But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red and the white ... a Canadian flag.

Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,

As I Seinfeld fan, I am really in awe.
Oh well... I've always found Kramer overrated. George is/was the best.

But anyways, when I heard about this, I thought it couldn't be that bad, until I saw this video.
