Aug 17-26, Denver to Portland
cancelled, as per Ticketbastard.com
Still waiting on word for Spokane, 3 BC shows, & Seattle

Lack of ticket sales, I guess??

I admit, when Gord's tour was first announced, I really wondered if Gord could sell enough tickets to play the same swing The Hip usually do on their tours - Colorado, Arizona, California, Oregon.

On their own, The Hip have a tough time filling 2000 seat venues on this western swing. I certainly thought Gord would have a tougher time getting just a quarter of the sales The Hip do, therefore making each stop on his West Coast tour unfeasible, and inevitably cancelled.

Why the heck Jake Gold would book Gord into this western swing is beyond me.

Aug 19, 2003 Cancelled Bluebird Theater with Gord Downie Denver, CO
Aug 20, 2003 Cancelled The Zephyr with Gord Downie Salt Lake City, UT
Aug 22, 2003 Cancelled Marquee Theater with Gord Downie Tempe, AR
Aug 23, 2003 Cancelled The Roxy Theater with Gord Downie Los Angeles, CA
Aug 24, 2003 Cancelled Great Americaa Music Hall with Gord Downie San Francisco, CA
Aug 26, 2003 Cancelled Lolas Room Portland OR

Taken from cashbrothers.com. Most of the venues also list the Gord shows as cancelled.

Yet on the 19th people subscribed to the wienerart mailing list got an e-mail stating the shows for the week.

I wonder whats up.

I could only assume poor ticket sales. Or inability to get over the US border. Or plane delays caused by the power blackout to get to Denver (Dr. Pee told me in Dallas that they were flying to Denver).

Kinda sucks considering I flew to Denver on the 19th only to find out the show was cancelled.

EVER WONDER where we are heading? ...

...why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

....why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?

....why you don't ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?

....why "abbreviated" is such a long word?

....why doctors call what they do "practice"?

....why you have to click on "Start" to stop Windows 98?

....why lemon juice is made with artificial flavor, while dishwashing
liquid is made with real lemons?

...why the man who invests all your money is called a broker?

....why there isn't mouse-flavored cat food?
.....who tastes dog food when it has a "new & improved" flavor?

...why Noah didn't swat those two mosquitoes?

...why they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

....why they don't make the whole plane out of the material used for the

indestructible black box ?

...why sheep don't shrink when it rains?
...why they are called apartments when they are all stuck together?

if con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

why they call the airport "the terminal" if flying is so safe?

AND...

In case you need further proof that the human race is doomed because of

stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods.

On a Myer hairdryer: Do not use while sleeping. (darn, and that's the
>only
time I have to work on my hair).

On a bag of Chips: You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details
inside. (the shoplifter special?)

On a bar of Palmolive soap: "Directions: Use like regular soap..." (and that would be how???....)

On some frozen dinners: "Serving suggestion: Defrost." (but, it's "just"
>a
> > >suggestion).

On Nanna's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom): "Do not turn upside
>down."
well...duh, a bit late, huh)!

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding: "Product will be hot after heating."
..Um yeah

On packaging for a K-Mart iron: "Do not iron clothes on body." (but

wouldn't this save me more time?)

On Boot's Children Cough Medicine:"Do not drive a car or operate
after taking this medication." (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of
construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with
head-colds off those forklifts.)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: "Warning: May cause drowsiness." (and...I'm taking
this because???....)

On most brands of Christmas lights: "For indoor or outdoor use only."

as opposed to...what?)

On a Japanese food processor: "Not to be used for the other use."

now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

On Nobby's peanuts: "Warning: contains nuts." (talk about a news flash!)

On an American Airlines packet of nuts: "Instructions: Open packet, eat

nuts." (Step 3: maybe, uh...fly Delta?)

I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this one: On a child's
superman costume: "Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly."

On a Swedish chainsaw: "Do not attempt to stop chain with your

Hands or genitals."

...was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

I had a good laugh over this one! :thumb:

This being my first time seeing Gord on his solo tour I was just throwing around some ideas in my head about meeting him. He'll be playing at a small venue here in Halifax at the Marquee (300 people max I think) and it would be the best/only chance Id have to meet him, shake his hand and tell him how much I love his music, because It wont happen when he's on tour with the Hip.

I dont want to invade his privacy or space but I thought it would be cool to shake his hand, say a few words, get him to sign my CMG poetry book/cd and have a picture taken with him. That's just myself, not the other hoards of people that would want to do the same. I just don't want to feel like Im bugging him.

Anyone care to share their thoughts or experiences on meeting Gord? Maybe make some suggestions?

thankies Smile

High

I have a feeling that there are a lot of Hipbasers who have't yet seen this list of committee members because it was kind of hidden at the end of the "Private show for Hipbasers" thread. So here it is, and feel free to email us with your ideas or suggestions.

mats Wrote:Hey all,

Here is a quick update.

The committee members for this project are as follows:

Tina (tina)
Adam (beanmedic)
Ryan (Ryan2)
Josh (The Heron Outside)
Jamie (thehip_11)
Lance
Bryan (mats)

Please feel free to PM any of us with your thoughts and ideas. We are a worthy bunch and we are willing to listen.

We have taken a lot of your ideas already and we are working on them now.

Next week we will have some valid information to pass along to you.

Until then...keep dreaming, 'cause you never know.

Cheers,
Mats.
