Hey gang, I have this idea. thought I'd run it by ya's.I have this idea,I've had it for awhile now, You know we all occasionly, some more than others, love to stand up and let loose that thing we call our voices. What if you had the chance to karioke to the Hip. When the Hip do their tour, they have in tow this traveling mini recording studio where you can sing your favorite hip tune, live or studio and for a certain amount of coin you can have your performance burnt to disk. And a portion of this money would go to a charity. You would also have the option of letting the crowd hear you or not. I don't think any band has done this, not that I know of,so the Hip would be breaking new ground. I have no idea what kinda dough it would take to get this off the ground, but I assume with todays advances in technology something could be scared up.But I guarantee whatever the cost, people would be into it. I'm not sure about anyone on the Hipbase but I'm a closet rock star and the Hip inspired me to be. At first I thought poeple thought I stank, but now I don't even care what poeple think. I get a tremendous feeling when I hum(Hum=sing) along to their music. Really charges my batteries.I'd bet $27.39 that every member of the hipbase would try it out, because we all now that feeling of pure ecstacy when we get behind the music, any music. Maybe 20 years hence we could play the recording for the grand kids and say"yup back in 0dd 4,the Hip,bless their souls came out with a travellin music machine(tryin to sound like a grizzled old prospector) Hey it may free up the beer trough. Maybe some of our favorite bands will add this to their shows.I think we all sing,in one form or another.Maybe I'm venturing off topic but, Music is not just one of life's pleasantries-the laws of harmonics are some of the most basic in our universe. The elements, the planets and the stars vibrate at specific frequencies.Music is structure.Giving form and substance to the naked air.Held together with harmony and released by melody,it reaches everywhere. The human voice is our instrument, which is capable of imatating all others.Crying out loud, yelling, crooning, growling,Nothing cheers someone up so much as to sing out loud. Not knowing music is like not knowing how to swim.there's no reason for it except neglect. Some people say they have no ear for music, take heart, an aptitude can be developed. This to me is more so about cosmic awareness, not a career in rock n roll. I really think this could work with of course the help from the Hip.Whatever the cost it will pay for itself, not to mention all the money for charity.I know there's alot to this but hopefully someone from the Hips camp reads the forum. You know how you can see into the future,I've seen something great about this!It can inspire, bring people together and we all need more of that. And lets face it,if our favorite bar had any selections of TTH to karioke to we'd be there every night, well i'd be every night.I just feel so much good can come of this.People could make friends, possibly start a garage band.the possibilities are endless I tells ya.

Well, this is a strange one...I downloaded AceFTP earlier today and have been using it to download from thehundredthmeridian.com. However, it disconnected me and now I'm trying to get back in - but when I enter "hip" as both the login and the password, it won't let me. Believe it or not, here's what I see:

USER hip
331 Password required for hip.
PASS *****
530 Login incorrect.

Why does the PASS field have 5 figures?! I clearly entered a three-letter password (hip), not FIVE!

I recently was in the need to replace my copy of Road Apples (long story- no need to explain) only to find out that ALL of the Hip's catalogue in US has been DELETED -- with the exception of In Violet Light. (sure a used copy will work, but I don't mind paying full price in the hopes of some royalty would be seen by the band)
Has the demise of Sire (and or) the Sire contract resulted in the loss of the CD's for fans in the States? :x :x
Are Canadian stores fully stocked?

Multi-national corporations suck;

Just wanted to see if any of the hipbase crowd was attending either of the Sam Roberts shows in Calgary or Edmonton on November 4th and 7th respectively.

Also wanted to see if anyone is planning on attending any of his upcoming shows in BC, SK or out East. Love to hear how the shows go.

Anyone attending Calgary or Edmonton, post and let me know if you want to meet up.

Jesse (aka Stickboy, Pig On Tour)

Hey people! This topic has probably been posted many times before but I thought I would start it up again. I was just wondering what made people start listening to the hip? Was it Gordie's rants,a favorite album or some experience with the hip? Just thought it would be a cool idea to share stories.

I started listening to the hip when I first heard Fully Completly. One day at my friends house, he was listening to 50 Mission Cap and he told me the story behind the song. Then he let me borrow the cd and I listened to the whole album. I don't think I could stop listening to the cd. Then a hip fan was born. Big Grin :thumb:

Uploading now
(with much help from Hipbase's beloved administrator Lance):

2003-06-21 Skydome, Toronto, ON.asf (140mb)

This is the Bell Sympatico High Speed Hip concert talked about in a previous thread.
It's 35% uploaded and should be done in about 4 hours.
