Ahem, okay...a bunch of friends and myself are arranging a trek todowntown Buffalo on Sunday night to the Crocodile Bar to see Strictly Hip.

I realise this is a work night...but if any other Hipbase members want to venture down there to see a great live show, it'd be kewl as hell to meet up with some of you, have a few brewskies, discuss the upcoming tour, share stories, etc.

We'll be there...hope some of you want to show up as well!

Okay, the "bands you love but hate to admit" thread combined with the "best non-Hip concerts" thread inspired me to start this one.

I've only seen DMB live once and it was last September at the Amphitheatre. I'm not the biggest DMB fan, but I really like some of his stuff and appreciate his talent. I was also pretty excited about the concert, since so many people had told me he puts on an incredible show. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I thought Dave put on one of the worst shows I've ever seen.

First, the sound was brutal, so I could barely hear anything he was saying (I'll partially blame the venue for that).

Secondly, he only did his encore after approx. 20 mins of cheering and clapping (I understand making the crowd work for it, but c'mon).

Third, there was a 3 - 5 min. gap between EVERY song when the lights went out and Dave fiddled around with his guitar, sat down for a while 'n wiped his ass. This completely killed the mood as no energy could build up.

Finally, the only thing he said, outside of his songs, the entire night was "thank-you" (maybe 3 times) and "good night". I don't even remember if he said "hello", never introduced a single song or had any interaction with the crowd.

So those DMB supporters out there, did you attendt his concert? Is this what Dave is usually like? What makes him such a great performer?

(Maybe the Hip have just set my standards too high)

7/23/2004 Darien Lake DVD

I was fortunate enough to attend this incredible show and I noticed that there were two people recording it, one was front row center. I was wondering if anyone has come into contact with the DVD yet.

I LOVE the new ending to Blow where just as Gord starts the final "Elvis" verse at the end, the band starts to play the "I can get behind anything..." creshendo again leading into another big bang! The songs builds for an extra explosion and then the boys play it out hard... it's just great.

I got a nice surprise this morning.... an original Pearson Pennant!

I'm told there are less than 1000 of the things left, and my Grandmother apparently had one tucked away in her basement for forty years.

This flag was all set to become our national flag in 1964, with the full support of PM Pearson (Hence the nickname) before George Stanley's Maple Leaf design was chosen instead during the infamous late night flag committee meeting in October '64. (According to John Turner: the flag wasn't the only thing "a few sheets to the wind" that night! )

Pearson liked the thing so much, he flew it on Parliament Hill and at Harrington Lake (The PM's Summer home) and had 2,500 of them sent to schools across Canada. My Grandmother lived in an old vintage school house, and it appears she was sent one by mistake.

Anyway, it made my day!

I can't help but noticed how under appreciated he is as a guitar player. I mean, his slide playing is top notch, and solos on songs like Tiger the Lion rival those of David Gilmour and other such highly noted guitarists. I can never get over how good he is when I see the boys live.
