anybody with suggestions as to a first album to buy?
I get in the car to drive to work this morning. . and as soon as i start the engine. . at the hundredth meridian comes in on the radio.
I get in the car to drive home from work later on, and as soon as I start the engine. . at the hundredth meridian comes in on the radio.
It has to be a sign.
Me debunk an American myth?
And take my life in my hands?
Where the Great Plains begin at the hundredth meridian
At the hundredth meridian where the Great Plains begin
Driving down a corduroy road,
Weeds standing shoulder high
Ferris wheel is rusting off in the distance
[Chorus]
At the hundredth meridian
At the hundredth meridian
At the hundredth meridian where the great plains begin
Left alone to get gigantic
Hard, huge, and haunted
A generation so much dumber than it's parents
Came crashing through the window
A raven strains along the line of the road
Carrying a muddy, old skull the wires show their approval
Off down the distance
[Chorus]
I remember, I remember buffalo And I remember Hengelo
It would seem to me
I remember every single fucking thing I know
[
If I die of Vanity, promise me, promise me
That if they bury me some place I don't want to be
That you'll dig me up and transport me
Unceremoniously away from the swollen city breeze, garbage bag trees
Whispers of disease, and acts of enormity
And lower me slowly, sadly, and properly
Get Ry Cooder to sing my eulogy
[Chorus]
Where the Great Plains begin at
The hundredth meridian
At the hundredth meridian where the Great Plains begin
Driving down a corduroy road,
Weeds standing shoulder high
Ferris wheel is rusting off in the distance

Hey.
I've got some family on the other side of the world, and the most they know of the Hip is that they're Canadian. They've never heard any of their stuff.
I'm going to be visiting them soon, and would like to burn them a Tragically Hip starter kit. I can spare 2 cds for it, and it'd be cool to have songs from all the albums on it, including some unused songs, too.
Any suggestions?

I see that the Hollywood, CA show is a CC event, so I'm guessing CC is the exclusive tour promoter and all shows will be at CC venues. This means no shows at any House of Blues (HoB competes with CC) and the is the reason for playing the Avalon and The Riv in Chicago.
I sure as hell hope this doesn't mean they skip Orlando this time, as I will probably be moving there by mid-Oct.
On the other hand, CC does those live boots that you can buy right after a show, so that's one positive. Hopefully, they make the shows available via mail order or download, too.
What the F***, I'm sorry but this whole lack of announcing "official" tour dates is really pissing me off. Tickets for some shows go on sale tomorrow and still no official word from The Hip.......WHY!!!!!!
The thing is, I would love to go on a roadie but without dates set in stone it is way too risky to be booking flights, hotels, rental cars, etc. Also, in order to get any dates off of work I need some advance notice.
I'm sure that The Hip themselves are not responsible but whoever is managing this tour, album release, website, fan club etc. needs a swift kick in the.........
The Hip are not just a band, they are also a business, a business with a very high quality product but a business severely lacking in the managerial department.
Sorry...needed to get that off my chest.
Show is up on ticketbastard:
Wed 10/6 @ Avalon
On sale Friday.
You can't make this stuff up...

Canada is back in the spotlight at the Olympics, but not for any of the reasons you'd want or expect.
Instead, it's over a ridiculous breach of security that has many worried about the overall safety of the athletes, and a 31-year-old man under arrest.
It happened when a Canadian wearing only a tutu, some clown shoes and a message written on his bare chest, left his seat at the Olympic Aquatic Arena in Athens, scaled some barriers, and made his way onto the diving board during the men's synchronized three-metre springboard event on Monday.
To make matters worse, he stayed in the pool for several minutes mocking the swimming competition, while Olympic authorities discussed what they should do. He was finally fished out and hauled away for questioning, before being charged and released.
At first, authorities claimed the Canuck, now tentatively identified as Ron Bensimhon of Montreal, was trying to send a love message to his wife. But a spokesman for the Golden Palace Casino claims the man was simply performing a publicity stunt, and had their company’s name written on his skin.
But while spokesman Drew Black agrees the stuntman has done additional promotions for his firm before, he insists they didn't ask for this one. “He did it for notoriety, to get famous,” Black reveals. Instead, he’ll be infamous, due in a Greek court on Wednesday.
While no one was injured as a result of the disruption, the man's actions sparked an immediate tightening of security at all Olympic venues.
And it may have had an effect on the outcome of the competition. Two Chinese entrants had the lead in the contest, but were so distracted by what happened, one of them wound up flopping into the water, losing both his focus and a chance at a sure gold medal.
They went from first place to last, and the Greek team took the top prize, much to the delight of the mostly partisan crowd. It was the first gold of the Games for the host country.
I highly recommend "An Honest Dealer." Just caught this on the movie network recently, and have to say it's a top notch psychological thriller. Really fantastic from start to finish. Originally released in 2002.
Anybody else find any hidden gems recently?

OK Hipbasers - The Horrible Esthete seeks your wisdom and logic! Here’s the situation:
Roommates X, Y, and Z share a rented house. Roommate X and Roommate Y share beliefs that are definitively aligned with a particular side of the political spectrum, while Roommate Z’s views clearly lean the opposite direction.
Roommate X wishes to demonstrate his support for an election candidate who represents his particular political ideology by placing a sign endorsing “Candidate A” in the front yard of the shared rental property. Roommate Y, though not inclined to publicly exhibit his political orientation, does not object. Roommate Z, however, naturally objects to the proposed action of Roommate X. A full-scale argument ensues.
Roommate X argues that he is entitled to exercise his constitutional rights of freedom of speech and peaceful demonstration at his place of residence. He asserts that this right cannot be challenged by Roommate Y (who shares his views) or Roommate Z (who entertains opposing views), arguing that each roommate is free to erect an endorsement for Candidate B, C, or D, even if it is displayed alongside his endorsement for Candidate A.
Roommate Z, though not particularly inclined to publicly demonstrate his political orientation either, hesitantly acquiesces to Roommate X’s proposed action, but threatens to take full advantage of his rights (as quoted by Roommate X) and place a sign for Candidate B immediately beside the any sign in the yard endorsing Candidate A.
Roommate Y, though unopposed to the public endorsement of Candidate A, is vehemently opposed to the endorsement of Candidate B at his place of residence, and insists that “equal representation” doesn’t satisfy his aversion having an endorsement for Candidate B in his front yard. He asserts that since the three tenants are not unified in their political perspectives, the only resolution is to proceed according to the status quo, which would be no public political endorsements at all.
What resolution do you think is most fair to all roommates?
