...and I gotta say, it keeps getting stronger and stronger in my estimation. This is a GREAT #$%%#^& RECORD---one of the very best of the Hip's career, maybe THE best after Day For Night. :jump Not to gush or anything...

What about you lot? Is time improving or worsening your opinion of the CD, or is your opinion static?

The mysterious dance turns 500 (we think) this year...

From this months "Walrus:"

"If you head to Seville for the twenty fifth Flamenco festival, be prepared to stay: the celebration will last almost a month. The origins of Flamenco are as mysterious as the music and the dance; its invention is attributed to Spanish gypsies, with (perhaps) Moorish, Jewish, Indian, Egyptian and Roman influences.

Some argue the word "flamenco" comes from the gaudy costumes of Flemish courtiers to Spain's Charles V in the sixteenth century; others insist it derives from the arabic - fellah mangu - the labourer who sings or - felag mengu - a fugative peasant."

Thought that was cool,

...and stamp your feet for everyone.

Why 20? Because trying to narrow it down to 10 is just way too difficult. There's only one rule- no multiple band entries. In other words, you can't pick the Hip 10 times. Here are mine, in no particluar:

1. The Hip- Day for Night
2. Neil Young- Harvest
3. The Band- Music From Big Pink
4. Rheostatics- Whale Music
5. The Weakerthans- Left and Leaving
6. Blue Rodeo- Nowhere to Here
7. The Lowest of the Low- Shakespeare, My Butt
8. 54-40- Smilin' Buddha Cabaret
9. Skydiggers- Restless
10. Sloan- Twice Removed
11. Sarah Harmer- You Were Here
12. Gordon Lightfoot- Sundown
13. Joni Mitchell- Blue
14. Cowboy Junkies- The Trinity Session
15. Crash Vegas- Aurora
16. Spirit of the West- Save this House
17. Headstones- Teeth and Tissue
18. The Pursuit of Happiness- Love Junk
19. Junkhouse- Birthday Boy
20. The Northern Pikes- Snow in June

I'm sure I'm missing a few that should be on this list. Next time I'll do a top 50 so I can squeeze 'em all in.
