Not bloody likely, but this one is just for fun. There have been many bands that have lended their likeness and tunes to the Simpsons over the years such as REM, U2, Aerosmith etc. I just got the fourth season on DVD and it got me thinking of how many cool things that could be done with The Hip on the Simpsons. I realize only us Hip fans would get the humor, but this is a topic that I would just enjoy seeing your ideas of how the boys would interact with Springfields most famous citizens.

After the official unofficial tour dates were posted here, I asked some questions on what venue would be best to see the Hip in (small, high chance of meeting them afterwards, etc.) and the DC show was recommended to me (at the 9:30 club).

However, since then I've been contemplating going to the Kingston show instead. I'm just wondering which show you guys think is a better idea for me (given the limited student funds and thus both not being an option). Is it better to watch the Hip in their home town again (and BTW, I love Matt Good too) or is it better to see the Hip in the small venue? I'm still leaning towards the latter, but I thought I'd check with those who have experience in both areas first.

Made an accidental discovery that pretty much torpedoes the idea that the sinking in Nautical Disaster is the Bismarck.

First of all, as we all know the song places the disaster in the afternoon, off the coast of France, with a casualty count of 4490. The problem is to find a disaster that bad; the Titanic sinking only killed 1500, and only an aircraft carrier has a crew that size. The other possibility would be a troopship.

The Bismarck was sunk in the morning (~1030), with a casualty count of just over 2000 (2,249 crewmen are known to have served on the ship). So it simply doesn't fit.

But the song may refer to the worst disaster in British naval history: on 17 June 1940, the troopship Lancastria was sunk by German bombers off St. Nazaire while evacuating British troops from the Battle of France. The sip sank at ~4:30 in the afternoon, and it is estimated that 4500 - 5000 were killed. Only two lifeboats were launched. For morale reasons, Churchill slapped a gag order on the survivors and reports on the sinking were banned (although the news later surfaced).

Of course, the disaster is simply a metaphor, so specific historical references are barely relevant. But for lovers of this kind of trivia, there's yer nautical disaster.

For those of you who've followed the Whorella soap opera over the years, she's now begun to actually reply to on-topic posts over at the NG, and is claiming she'll be in Syracuse!

I don't know whether to be kinda intrigued or really, really afraid.

Could be fun.
