I was wondering if anyone who's been to Hawaii can recommend some things we should for sure do while we're there? I'm taking an 11 day cruise of all the island and have a few excursions booked but if someone can give me an idea of some cool things I should check out, let me know.

So far I'm doing the following things: Surfing, Snorkling, Pearl Harbour Tour, Rainforest Tour, Glass bottom ship cruise, Golfing in Maui, Hawaiian Luau and an air plane trip throughout the volcanoes including Diamond Head. I have 3 days where nothing is planned so any ideas would be great.

Over heard Rob Baker this weekend say that the hip are only on for three songs at live 8.

CTV reported this on the 6 o'clock news and speculates Avril and Mark Knophler could too

There was a thread (http://www.hipbase.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3049) started in July 04 about the concert fool which referenced Buddyhead's Rules of Rock (http://www.buddyhead.com/music/rulesofrock/rock.html) "for anyone in a band or anyone who wants to be in a band. Although the list is pretty entertaining, I do agree with some of the points. However, I think #3 is a fair rule:

3) Don't wear your band's own shirts. No exceptions or excuses accepted. Don't think the "but I'm on tour and we haven't been able to wash our clothes, it's the only thing clean I had to wear" story is gonna fly… wear the dirty shirt, you're a rocker my friend.

I wasn't so impressed with Robbie's Stripper's Union shirt under his button-up shirt at the Mod Club. I'm not sayin crucify the guy for it... just surprised to see it, since it's usually the brand new band who is a lil' too excited to play live and therefore at fault for it.

You've probably all heard it, but can anyone confirm it?

For about five years an instrumental version of the original Gordie's "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" has been floating around cyberspace credited to the boys. I haven't found anything to confirm this, and was wondering if anybody had any new info? Hip tune? Not a Hip tune?

And can anybody (Rory... I'm looking in your direction ) confirm that The Hip actually produced a cover of "Limelight" and presented it to the members of Rush? Anybody know the year? Anybody know Geddy Lee's e-mail address?

SHAKE IT OFF (Walkin' with the King o' Funk)

RB - Musically this began in my basement as did almost all of these songs. It was a straightforward funk number that I worked up with the Hip guys during the "Music @Work" sessions. When it came time to cut the track both Pat and Doug asked 'why would you want to change what Gord Sinclair and Johnny Fay have done?' Good point. Paul Langlois also plays the lead guitar line as I was holding down "the Jimmy Nolen thin sound".

CN - I once sat kitty corner to Edgar Winter on a flight. The man cuts some serious space with that aura. He fell asleep and did the head bob like any of us do. Here was a titan of the funk rock asleep and revealing the same childlike vulnerability we all possess. Robbie had this amazing James Brown-ish track to work with and we just switched the identity of the sleeper and imagined ourselves onto a new flight.

FULL FLOW ANGRY BOY

RB - Another basement riff brought to life by the Hip cats. Particularly note worthy and problematic are Paul L.s creepy guitar bends. Neither Craig nor I could satisfactorily recreate Paul's part, and we couldn't do without it, so we used the 'demo' and chopped it up to get the song structure we desired. Lyrically it stemmed from another of those conversations about what we find amusing and absurd about the contemporary music scene. This time Craig set his sights on the clichés of heavy as exemplified by 'modern rock'. I actually made a few lyrical contributions on this one though Craig put his delicate little foot down over my closing chorus lyric; "Here I sit - heart intact - Paid a dime - got a nickleback."

CN - There is a certain breed of rock musician who never outgrows the phase of life when you were really mad at your mom. You screamed and yelled and threw your wah wah pedal at the wall of your room and put a hole in the sheet rock. This is a bit of a tribute to the angry boy in all of us hairy rock adults.

NO ONE'S WATCHING

RB - Several years ago I got a Joe Pass Epiphone jazz guitar. An hour later I had the bulk of this tune, as if the music was trapped inside the instrument waiting to be kissed by a frog. We had been discussing pop music’s downward age trend and the domination of the airwaves by teen queens. It just seemed like it might feel good to kill one of them off in a song. Creepily enough some of the images Craig describes in the song’s 'tragic video shoot' did appear in one of those videos that there is no escape from (short of turning off the TV). The spoken word section is performed by a young gal who should be a teen queen as she has the required goods and writes terrific songs - Samantha Moore from Colborne, ON. Look for her record.

CN - The prefab pop teen can never escape the public eye until death. You are always painted with that brush. It must be worse than having the same role on a successful sitcom for too many years. People only know you as what you played on TV. We imagined a radio falling into the bathtub of a teen diva and sending her to heaven in a pop-up video dream sequence. I said to Rob, “It could be Britney Spears dying in a bath tubâ€

OK, I've searched this topic on the 'base and didn't see any posts on it, so...

I'm thinking of going back to school and getting my MBA, starting September 2006. I know I have to write the GMAT as part of the whole process to apply.

Anybody here ever write the GMAT? I'm pretty confident that I'll do well when I write the test, but still, if anyone has written it and has any advice or thoughts, I'd certainly appreciate hearing about them.

OK, so I've wondered in the past about Jeremy Roenick, is he a fun-loving, thoughtful yet outspoken hockey player, or is he a spoiled asshat who plays hockey? I could never make up my mind, so I decided to write it off as one of those little mysteries of life and move on.

Anyone ever been on one? Mine is coming up in a months time. Wedding talk is everywhere, and I'm gonna talk about the post wedding(to take my mind off of the wedding talk).

I was allowed to pick the honeymoon, and keep it a secret from my wife to be. I gave it to her as a surprise anonymous gift at her wedding shower last month. I tried out a short cruise last January, and we loved it. But, I wanted to do a litte something different.

Her maid of honour is getting married the next week in Vegas. We are going there and staying at the Monte Carlo for 6 nights. We went down last May and stayed at the Mirage, and both really enjoyed it. But, we were with friends, and were unable to go to certain shows because of cost and other activities we had already planned. So, I booked "O" at the Bellagio, and got some front row tickets for David Copperfield at the MGM.

From there, we will be going to Maui for a week. Staying on Kaanapali Beach in Lahaina. Apparently, it's paradise on earth. I had been warned about other places in Hawaii (ie Honolulu), that have been over run by tourists.

Just curious about what other married folks did, or are about to do. Like I said, just trying to get the wedding off my mind for a little bit.
