The Hip are like no other band in so many ways but to me, no other band has as many good songs as they do and so few bad songs.

Been listening to music for over 30 years now and know many many bands well by now. The percentage of good to great songs for the Hip is the highest of any I know. For me, it is probably the most impressive thing about the band. It never ceases to amaze me when I think about it.

Can anyone relate?

Hey guys,

Long time reader, first time poster. Have a pretty cool contest I wanted to share.

I work for the local Kingston newspaper and we are publishing a national tribute section to The Tragically Hip in the coming weeks.

In conjunction with the section there is a contest being hosted for someone to win 2 tickets, travel and accommodations to see The Hip in Kingston on August 20th. It would be nice if someone from Hip Base won.

Contest closes August 4th, so don't sleep on this. It's super easy to enter and it is going to be one legendary weekend in Kingston.

Good luck everyone!
Graham

Hello out there. I was able to get my handheld video cam (JVC Everio 780p) & mono pod into the Edmonton #1 show last night & recorded the whole show minus the band/encore breaks (to conserve battery). Its a pretty steady shoot with the odd bump and lurch here and there. I shot it from the floor row 11 centre. It captures the whole band during there compact stage sets & follows Gord (mostly) for the larger stage sets. I would like to share with 'basers but I am not all that tech savvy. Is there someone out there that does dvds, chaptering, edit in other sources, etc that can do something with this recording & make it available for torrenting etc.? I am willing to snail mail a copy out.

Looking to purchase a single ticket, or a pair of tickets to any of the 3 Toronto shows. Even if you have a pair and your concert mate drops out, I can fill his/her shoes! I'll even buy us a coupla cold ones!

Hi all. Given that we now know the setlist formula for this tour, just wondering what everyone's ultimate setlist would be respecting the setlist format.

So, 25 songs off 7 albums (6 random plus MMP), 4 song mini-sets off each of 5 albums + one 3 song encore from another album + one two song encore off another album. This was a weird, interesting exercise vs. the typical "put together a dream setlist of random tunes" exercise. I ended up leaving off Fully Completely entirely, which I never thought I'd do. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized those are the tunes I've heard most at Hip shows over the years. I can live without hearing Courage live again if it gets me Emperor Penguin or Sherpa.

Here's my wish list:

Morning Moon
Depression Suite
Country Day
Honey, Please

In a World Possessed
Here, in the Dark
Man
Machine

Long time running
Three Pistols
Fiddlers Green
Cordelia

ABAC
Sherpa
Put it off
Gift Shop

Poets
Bobcaygeon
Fireworks
Emperor Penguin

The Bastard
Tiger the Lion
Puttin Down

Nautical Disaster
Scared

Four shows in, I've gotta say I'm surprised they haven't played Nautical Disaster yet. Anyone else surprised by what they *haven't* played so far?
