  Canadian Geographic Music Survey

Canadian Geographic is planning a special music issue that will hit newstands in Jan/Feb 2006. The stories will explore the "geography of music, from Bhangra in British Columbia to rock on, well, The Rock."

Prior to publication, they are compiling a list of the "50 definitive songs about Canadian places. Whether they’re about city streets or mountainscapes; whether they’re country, opera, alternative or reggae — your suggestions will help [them] compose the ultimate geographical playlist."

Bobcaygeon and Wheat Kings are the two Hip songs that instantly spring to mind for me. What Hip songs would you choose?

...Was simply an incredible night for rock and roll...Doesn't seem as if it was that long ago, but really, when Das Hips brought "An Evening With.." to the ACC that night, I'm not sure we all knew what we were in for, but 30 songs later, including a stirring rendition of Courage followed by a deafening roar of applause which is still palpable when listening to the boot today, all the "music lovers" left happy, happy people...

Here's hoping they do something like that again, as I'm sure there are many 'basers who had the pleasure of being in the audience for that special night...

This DVD came from Chris Olds' collection which he was selling on the hipbase.
I picked it up as I didn't have this, or even know there was a video from this
show, and with the intention to torrent this here on the hiptracker Smile

I have no information about the lineage. The menu doesn't give any indication
as to the song titles, so I got them from the hipbase setlist archive.

I know this site frowns upon the whole illegal spreading of the Hip's music, but hear me out. I am currently stationed in England for the year, with nowhere to purchase the boxset. To solve this problem I had my parents pick it up and send it on its way over the ocean. I was supposed to receive it this past Monday but it still hasn't come, and I'd REALLY like to hear the new maybe. Hell if I searched I imagine I could find it anyway, but I thought I'd just throw this out there as I've been waiting a friggen month now.

No problem if people don't want to do it.

Despite being painted as earth-wreckers, many conservatives like myself do foster a deep concern for all things natural. This is why I am here to raise awareness regarding the disturbing disappearance of a treasured member of our continent’s mammal population: the North American Beaver.

These warm, furry little creatures once thrived in great numbers across our fair land, but in recent decades, particularly in the early 1990s, numbers began dwindling. Today, even the most avid and resourceful naturalists are hard-pressed to find a single occurrence of this now reclusive specimen.

Today’s younger generation scarcely takes notice of the beaver’s disappearance, which at this present day, is all but complete. It is now difficult to detect even the slightest trace of a beaver, even in regions where beavers were once thick and dense. Beavers are now found only in small, sporadic patches, as modern society has apparently deemed it ‘desireable’ to rid itself of beavers altogether. Even when there is a sighting, the beaver itself is, almost without exception, much smaller and thinner than those that were commonplace as recently as 1988.

Am I unique in my lament of this all-but-forgotten natural treasure? Without the good old beaver around, the landscape seems much too blanch and barren. And boring. I already miss them. And I sure hope that beavers make a comeback before I am too old to continue venturing into its natural habitat, where it once flourished.

I was at the Sarah Harmer show last nite here in Toronto and guess who else was there in the crowd? Mr. Gordon Downie! He came in just as the show was starting and sat and watched the show from a few rows back. He left during the encore break. I was hoping for a duet, but that never did happen. It was cool to see him there.

Which leads to a question...I haven't seen the video for Silver Road in ages...is there anywhere that I can see it? Thanks in advance.

When it comes down to it what is the single handedly best song? It's so tough to choose and any man or woman that sits down and thinks about this may just pass out it's very tough! Sad
I have thought long and hard and can get it down to only 3 because they all are great, anyone else agree with these 3?:
Blow at High Dough (first one I ever heard)
Grace,Too (first one performed on SNL)
Poets (just love it)

One more thing......
What's everyones favorite video? Mine is Darkest One because of Don Cherry. He delievers chicken what a classic! :lol:
