I know this news isn't quite the same as all those of you who have recently had children of your own, but I'm still pretty excited about it, so I thought I'd share it with you.

I am now officially an uncle, for the first time! Last night, just past 7:30 pm, my sister gave birth to a healthy baby girl. The baby's full name is Leah Evelyn German, and she weighed in at 7 lbs, 1.5 oz. Needless to say, all of us in my family are excited, especially since, for both sets of grandparents, this is the first grandchild... so this is definitely big news!

Hopefully soon I'll get the OK to share a picture of her so you can see how cute she is!

I'm not so sure if this is the right way to go about doing this, but it would be much appreciated if somebody could send me one of the live versions of "The Heart Of The Melt" that is in existance. It is for a little project that I am putting together, and I will post it on The Hip Tracker as soon as I am done.
To make things easier for whoever, here are the three recorded concerts that "The Heart Of The Melt" was played:

One of the reasons that TTH is one of my favorite bands of all-time is the litte "neat" things they do in songs throughout thir catalogue. You know, the creative, nifty things like the development of cool dual-guitar effects, the writing of superb bridges, etc.

One of these niceties appears in Let's Stay Engaged, when, after the juicy opening guitar riff is established, punctuated by Faye's snappy percussion and underscored by a subdued, "gurgly" Sinclair bass walk, Gord S. slaps a second, more pronounced bass line overtop his initial foundation.

Check it out if you've never concentrated on it before: it occurs just after Downie utters the word "departure" for the first time in the first verse, at exactly the :50 second mark (according to the run-time displayed in my WMP menu bar).

And I'll take this opportunity to give Sinclair himself some accolades - I think that he is perhaps the MVP in the Hip's lineup. His influence is prominent in the artistic direction of this band, and from what I can glean, his modal orientation seems to steer the compositional aspect of this bands music more that any other individual member.

  A noteworthy Hip dream...

the last dream before I woke up was a Hip dream.

I had won a contest where I got to pick 3 songs for the Hip's show that night. I was in a hotel room, and on a piece of hotel stationary, I wrote:

Josephine
Fully

and then the whole band walked in. I was nervous to meet them, and got to shake all their hands. Then Gord Sinclair said, "You're 3rd song". I thought for a bit and in a hurry wrote down:

Vapour Trails

He looked at it and said, "Yeah, I think those are doable".

Next thing I'm in an arena and the Hip are walking on stage. They start playing a song (can't remember which one), only instead of Bobby on stage, it's an old highschool buddy of mine, and his guitar isn't working. The band has already kicked in to the song (can't remember which one) and poor old Rob Kiel can't figure out what the heck to do. Finally, near the end of the song, a guitar tech. comes over and gives him a guitar that actually works.

Next thing, Jodie Foster stroles out on stage and starts playing some real good guitar. The band joins her and they're playing "New Years Day" by U2. I am almost shitting my panst by now and attempt to let out a whistle, but nothing happens. The band with Jodie sound fantastic. The song finishes and the band takes a break.

I look around and I spy Gord Downie sitting by himself. I go over to him and start up a coversation. "This is the 19th Hip show I have seen, and I gotta say that is the coolest Hip moment I have seen on stage". (Jodie Foster on guitar and New Years Day). I ask him how they managed to get her to join them and he said it took a lot of coaxing.

I woke up.

Just curious where the support is in the Hipbase...

The Poll will close 46 days from now to (hopefully) coincide with election day.

I'm keeping it simple...only Liberal, Conservative, NDP or "other" available to vote on. I'd have put in the Marijuana Party, but it wouldn't be fair to the big 3 :wink:

Hulk' actor Jack Colvin dies at 71
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor Jack Colvin, best known for his role as tabloid reporter Jack McGee in the 1970s television series The Incredible Hulk, has died. He was 71.
Colvin died Thursday in North Hollywood of complications following a stroke, said his longtime friend, actress Maaren Edvard, an instructor and administrator at Michael Chekhov Studio USA West, which was founded by Colvin.

"Jack was, in every sense of the word, a consummate artist," Edvard said. "He wrote, painted and read philosophy, but he always came back to acting."

Colvin appeared in numerous TV shows, including The Rat Patrol,Kojak,The Six Million Dollar Man,The Rockford Files,Cagney and Lacey and Murder, She Wrote. He also had minor roles in several films, including Scorpio and Rooster Cogburn.

He had a long history as a stage actor when he was approached about the Hulk role in 1977. The series, based on the Marvel Comics character, aired on CBS until 1982.

"When they told me the title, I laughed. But then they gave me two scripts to read and I knew the series would go," he once told the Los Angeles Times.

In the show, as in the comic book, a lab experiment that went awry caused a mild-mannered scientist to turn into the green, muscular Hulk every time he lost his temper.

"People identify tremendously with the frustration, the rage and the anger that breaks out in a man," Colvin once said.

The actor, who once studied under Chekhov, taught the Chekhov technique at USC; California State University, Northridge; the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Central School of Cinematography in Rome.

He was teaching acting two days a week and working on an original play, A Day of Jubilo, at the time of his death, Edvard said.

He had no immediate survivors. A memorial service is planned for January.

I'm not sure if its possible, or even if its a waste of time.

However, when DMB tours, they release real-time setlists through their official road site (linked off their main <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.dmband.com">http://www.dmband.com</a><!-- m --> in several places).

Some techie releases the name of each song as it is played live, and people following online can see how the show is shaping up.

Personally, I think it's kind of cool. I was following the show in Toronto last night cuz a bunch of friends were there, and it was neat to see what they were seeing at the time.

Is this an idea for the Hip's next tour? Is it worth the effort?
