... Get the audio version of TNIT and the Live 10 series that are on the Canadian itunes without actually signing up for the Canadian itunes? I'm an American and I already have an account on itunes, but its for the American store.

Two-hour delays at the border? That’s not enough to deter this week’s Canadian Invasion.

Two of Canada’s most venerable rock bands will take the trip south to Vermont in the coming days. Sunday will see Blue Rodeo make an appearance in the Higher Ground Ballroom. Two days later, The Tragically Hip returns to its sizable Vermont fan base for a show at Memorial Auditorium.

Blue Rodeo has a habit of touring with fellow noteworthy Canadian musicians who sit in with the band, and the current tour — which began Sunday in Michigan and ends Nov. 10 in Buffalo, N.Y. — is no exception. Singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith joins Blue Rodeo along with fellow Canadian singer-songwriters Luke Doucet and Justin Rutledge. Inspired by Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue, the show will feature all the acts playing together as one band and sharing each others’ songs.

Only 48 hours after the final notes of “O Canada” leave your head, The Tragically Hip finds its way back to Vermont with its famously blistering live show. For those of you in need of your Hip fix, it’s been a quick turnaround — the Ontario-born band was most recently in the greater Burlington area just over six months ago for two shows at Higher Ground, the South Burlington night club that’s also presenting Tuesday’s concert at Memorial Auditorium.

Those sold-out Higher Ground shows in April demonstrated the Hipsters’ immense popularity in northwestern Vermont. Bass player Gord Sinclair talked about that with The Burlington Free Press before those shows: “Generally speaking, people in your neck of the woods are more open-minded to things that are not from America,” he said then. “We’ve never had the benefit of a stateside single. With a group like ours, all you have to do is get us in front of people.”

Check out this critique of a recent Hip gig from the band’s home-country publication the Halifax (Nova Scotia) Chronicle Herald: “While the guitar duo of Paul Langlois and Rob Baker with bassist Gord Sinclair and drummer Johnny Fay laid down the fierce rock groove, frontman Gordon Downie was a one-man, three-ring circus, a vessel of fervour and emotion.”

Came across this article from a Dutch online music magazine. I can't read Dutch, but using an online translator I think this group is saying they take their influence from (or sound like...) the Hip. I'm probably way off. Can anyone clarify?

Went to O’Neal’s before the show, $3 pints of micro were great. Got to the TLA for the final 2 songs of the opening band. I enjoyed them and wish I would have gotten there earlier.

I love seeing the Hip in small venues. Gord was very animated, excellent showmanship. Setlist was nothing spectacular, On the Verge closer was great, and I never heard Fly live, so that was a treat.

Just my opinion, but please take Courage out of the rotation for a while. They opened the encore with it and I have to say "it couldn't have come at a worst time".

After show was a mellow scene on South Street. Ended the night with a cheesesteak from Jims. Great Night!

Canadian Business Online- Another Canadian Affair

A few weeks ago my boyfriend and I hosted a Canadian Thanksgiving dinner. We invited all the business school Canucks, as well as all the Canucks at Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. We ate our way through a 25-lb turkey, turned our noses up at the American version of sweet potatoes (which come adorned with marshmallow fluff), and discussed topics like education, healthcare, and social welfare. One guest left early to go play ice hockey. It was a thoroughly Canadian affair.

Tonight I'll attend another Canadian affair - but on a slightly larger scale. The Tragically Hip are playing in New York City this evening, at the Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center. And every Canadian living in the five boroughs will be there.

Compared to the Italians, or the Spanish, or the Aussies, Canadians don't stick together in NYC. Sure, we all have a friend or two from home. But, by and large, Canadian-ness doesn't forge friendships.

Until it comes to The Tragically Hip. The Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees have my generation in their grasp. Their ongoing exploration, through their lyrics, of what it means to be Canadian resonates - especially for those of us living abroad.

I won't wear a Canadian flag, or sing the national anthem tonight. I sure do hope the Hip play One Night in Toronto, though.

This is for all fans who have seen the TTH for NYE !!!

What a time those shows were...I wish I had got to Chicago last year...but the goods news is I've done a couple already...Hamilton, ACC.

So I'm wondering where the band is playing this year.

My guess is they've got the ACC booked for a couple of nights but are just waiting till next Sunday(Nov 4th) to release the info...perhaps I'm wrong...but IMHO this is their biggest cd in awhile and it would be a smart way to close out the tour...with a BIG BANG! lol

Finally I wanted to give kudos to all bands that perform on NYE...I have seen some incredible balloon drops over the years Smile

Remember that NYE ACC show when Gordo insisted on hunting down every balloon on stage and popping it...a mad man posessed!! lol
