They site always starts you off with a dime, every time you lose regardless of how many hundred times you lose. Tragically Hip expected to perform at gala

Tragically Hip fans have another chance to see the band play live in Ottawa before their Bluesfest gig in July.

The Citizen has learned that the Kingston band's next public performance in the capital will be next Saturday night, May 3, in Southam Hall of the National Arts Centre. The Hip are among the recipients at the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards -- the annual gala to honour some of the nation's great artists -- and sources say the legendary Canadian band will perform during the show.

Most musical recipients do not perform. Typically, another musician will perform one of the recipient's songs. Recipients this year include Eugene Levy, Anton Kuerti and Michel Pagliaro, among others. Tickets for the gala are available through ticketmaster.ca, or at the NAC box office.

Not since Mark Messier has there been a hockey player in New York that's captured the attention of the Big Apple's media elite like Sean Avery of the New York Rangers. Nick Paumgarten of The New Yorker has a piece on Avery this week called "Puckhead" that celebrates his attitude, his antagonism of Marty "Fatso" Brodeur in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and, above all else, his dedication to fashion:

He has said that he finds sports, and athletes, boring, and that he'd like to be an editor of a fashion magazine. (He's planning to do a summer internship at Vogue.) Unlike most hockey players, he sees nothing wrong with the fact that he likes to "smell nice occasionally." He has said that he prizes his black patent-leather Yves Saint Laurent high-tops, "a lovely cashmere throw from a friend who works at Calvin Klein," and his Philippe Starck machine-gun-shaped lamp ("It lets you know there's a man living in the house"). For a while, he wore black nail polish on one hand-"my fighting hand." He told one magazine, "Sometimes I'll wear a scarf to the game and my teammates have no idea what to do." The added emphasis above is ours, because we didn't want you to breeze over the most important piece of news to emerge from the article: Sean Avery is going to intern at Vogue during the summer. According to Courtney Hazlett of MSNBC this morning, "He wrote a letter to [editor-in-chief] Anna Wintour saying he really liked the magazine, and while he's got some time to spare this summer he would like to hone his skills at Vogue magazine. Their spokesperson is saying the 28 year old will be expected to do traditional assistant-like duties."

According to Women's Wear Daily, those duties could include "making copies and messengering couture gowns." All we know about Vogue magazine, we learned from the thinly-veiled experiences of a former editorial assistant shared in "The Devil Wears Prada." Based on that classic film, Avery can expect a summer of nasty insults about his lack of style, tracking down unpublished copies of "Harry Potter" manuscripts for the editors' daughters and spending the night with the man of his dreams under the lights of Paris. Or maybe not all of those; they're not making any more "Harry Potter" books, after all.

Raptors played a great second half tonight, but it was too little too late. Had they not had such a stinky first half, they could've easily won this game and been returning to Toronto with the split. Instead, they're down 2-0, and they're going to be going into game 3 with an enormous amount of pressure on them. A little dissapointing that Bosh couldn't make the shot to win it, but he had a graet game, so I won't complain.

I'm enjoying watchign the Hornets absolutely destroy the Mavs thus far though :thumb:

Hey all I'm a big Hip fan, one of the few in the states i'm sure. Probably Phantom Power is my favorite album.
Anyway, I saw a neat band last week in New York, I figured i'd pass it along because i like to spread the word on good, unknown bands i see.
