We haven't heard anything about the new album for a long time. Someone give me something to get me through the week. Make it up if you have to...

So my son is about to turn one...and we're flying to Hawaii for a huge birthday party (150ish people). One of the things I need to finish is the slideshow. This will be given to grandparents, aunties, and uncles as keepsakes.

Obviously I have the pictures --- I just really need help with the music.

I'm not into the traditional sappy music ~ I'd like ours to be more then yet another corny DVD.

I was thinking Long time Running as one of the songs.

My good ol' Saint John Sea Dogs begin their march to the Mem Cup Friday nite in Bat'urss. I think they should take the eastern division handily with their veteran-laden roster. Thoughts?

I'm a teacher at a school with uniforms; one of my gr. 12 students today said something that prompted me to say, "you should listen to the HIP, their lyrics are very dark, you'd like..." And she immediately stood up and opened her shirt revealing a Tragically Hip shirt she was wearing underneath!! I thought that was so awesome.

Some students that I had previously taught, mentioned to me that they had seen the HIP at Bluesfest this summer.

They are listening to their Rihanna and their Coldplay on their Ipods and Mp3 players and listening to the NEW HOT 89.9 that never plays the HIP despite songs like New Orleans Is Sinking (a song that got played at my school's PROM last year), Ahead By A Century, and In View being very pop- radio-friendly...

Parents, older siblings and teachers have a part, but if it was just that, then kids would be into all kinds of bands that we loved in the 80's and 90's but as a matter of fact, it only takes one listen to the HIP, and young ears can pick up on the power behind the music. I can't wait to see to what extent the new album pulls off some more younger conversions.

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia -- With more goals than minutes in the game, Slovakia's women's ice hockey team claimed an amazing 82-0 victory over Bulgaria in Olympic qualifying.

Slovakia outshot the Bulgarians 139-0 during the 60-minute game, played in Latvia. The margin of victory is a record for a women's International Ice Hockey Federation-sanctioned event.

"We took it as training," Slovakia coach Miroslav Karafiat said after Saturday's game.

Janka Culikova led Slovakia with 10 goals, while Martina Velickova scored nine. Fourteen different players scored at least one goal.

Slovakia, which also beat Croatia, Latvia and Italy, advanced to another qualifying group with Germany, Kazakhstan and France. The winner will secure a spot at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Bulgaria was eliminated after scoring one goal and giving up conceding 192 in the tournament.

The Slovakian men's team clinched its biggest ever victory against the Bulgarians 14 years ago when they won 20-0.

I think I posted a few years ago about my friend, Lynne Hanson's first CD. Well, as with all good artists, she has more to say and her second CD has just been released. It's charting on the EuroAmerican chart (though I will admit I'm not sure whre that's based out of) and she has recently signed a European distribution deal, so she's spreading her music far and wide.

Her first CD was in a folk vein, and the new one ups the amps with more instrumentation and I think a better recording quality... (money does wonders, eh?) and it has a country twinge to it. In any event, check it out for yourself, and if you like what you hear, support local Ottawa music by buying a copy!

She's also having a CD release party at the NAC on September 20th, which is being recorded by CBC Radio 2, presumably for a later airing. I plan on being there, so let me know if you're gonig and maybe we can have a hipbase section!
