Thom Yorke, the Radiohead frontman, and Flea, the bassist with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, have teamed up to form a supergroup.

The band, which will play live dates next week, also includes drummers Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.

In the past couple of weeks I've been getting a band together for fun to play the Eraser [Yorke's 2006 debut solo album] stuff live and the new songs ... to see if it could work!" Yorke wrote on Radiohead's Dead Airspace blog, alongside a picture of the new unnamed band.

The news surprised many Radiohead fans, with some suggesting the story was a hoax.

"Thom Yorke and Flea form supergroup, how bizarre!" posted olliefrancis on Twitter. "Thom Yorke in a band with Flea, and a few more. Flea? Wtf?!" posted domgreenwood.

The band have announced two live dates at the Orpheum theatre in Los Angeles on 4 and 5 October. It is not yet clear if the band intend to write their own material.

The collaboration in an experimental period for Radiohead. In August, Yorke said that his band may not release another album, focusing on downloads instead.

Earlier this month, drummer Phil Selway became the third Radiohead member to embark on a solo route, following in the footsteps of Yorke and Jonny Greenwood.

Selway's new project will be a collaboration with members of Wilco, singer-songwriter Lisa Germano and former Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg.

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone here went to the concert last night in Ottawa? I was lucky enough to share a moment with Gord and I didn't catch any of it on video! We sang Music at Work to eachother for a few seconds and I know someone out there must have videotaped him out in the crowd singing it! If anyone knows of anything let me know....I am also checking out youtube hoping to find something! He was actually standing on the seat infront of me and he was leaning down to me...so it's pretty obvious...not just a quick glance !

picked up a nice new hoodie in edmonton...bought the xl at first and it fit kinda tight so i went with the xxl(first time i`ve ever needed xxl in anything). fit good til i washed it, now it almost fits me like most large sizes would. very disappointing considering the cost .....anyway, wash in cold & HANG TO DRY

Not to sound too Spinal Tap-like, but I know the Hip are nothing if not punctual. But with this tour, since I'm presuming there is no opener, should I be worried about not making it to the club at door time?

I have 3 tickets for the Leafts vs the Avalanch on Tuesday Oct 13th. They are section 111 row 14, great seats. 3 together. Face value is $206 each but I will sell them for closest to facevalue or a quick resonable price.

Does Gord only wear the same two-three shirts? Does he not subscribe to GQ magazine?
If Gord sweated that much at an outdoor concert in our Fall climate, he'd suffer hypothermia.
Gord needs a wireless mike to venture out into the crowd. Someone's going to get strangled.

Being from Ottawa, I wasn't impressed with the sound quality at the NAC.
Gord's cords weren't buttered-up enough for the first song NOIS. That's a tough one to start with.
Robbie is the coolest dude around and obviously enjoys his work.
Why do the folks in the NAC balconies sit while all others in the NAC orchestra stand? Gord pointed that one out.

I'm curious if the front row(s) at the theatre shows are allowed to lean up against the stage or is there a line of security preventing you from doing this? Looking at the posted videos it looks like a bit of both. We're in row BB for one of the Hamilton shows and I'm wondering what our chances of getting a piece of the stage are.

What is the last Hip song you have seen live? Just for fun, could generate a bit of discussion on closers.
I'm glad Fire In The Hole has started to be played again. I love it when they close with the song that Gord "hates" :thumb:

The Darkest One has got to be one of my favourite Hip songs and it's only been played on IVL's introductory tour in 2002. I think it's about time this beautiful song is dusted off and played a few times for those of use who didn't get a chance to see the Hip in 02.

Can I get an amen?
