Ok - maybe the strangest title for a thread here, but whatever - trust me here.

This week is National Public Service Week. Feel free to insert any and all jokes you want about public service here and now. I work for the gov, but I have a cool job that is probably very different than everyone's perception of what gov't jobs are like. But I digress...

This week, among the activities at Canadian Heritage, they are showcasing a number of short films from the National Film Board collection and among the films on the schedule for Friday over lunch is... Family Band from director David Battistella! I think that's pretty freaking cool! How about a Hipbase reunion of gov't employees in the National Capital region coverge on the Knowledge Center at Terrasses de la Chaudiere on Friday at 11:50am?

Cheers - Sean.

Why you may ask have I never listened to it from beginning to end.
Well because I never bought the CD. Simple as that.
I downloaded it off napster or limewire using the song list off a cd cover.
And for that reason when I burned it I did not even put the songs in the right order, also the burned cd would not play in my car, so it when I tried to listen to it, it did not have that flow that happens when they put it together. Also I did not have the cd cover to look at and read as to who did this and that and the other thing. I love the songs music at work, tiger the lion, lake fever but have never really heard the rest of the album. Now im thinking I should just hold off on listening to it closly and save it for when the band retires. Yea it can be my special cd that all bands seem to put out 10 years after they retire of old unreleased stuff.
My point is I totally fucked up, I downloaded it and did not get the true feeling for it and have not enjoyed it the way it can be enjoyed like all other Hip albums, so do I start to listen to it now or wait and keep it like an old bottle of great wine to be enjoyed on a special occasion.
AND What are your fav songs on it? Introduce me to the CD thru your own words, tell me why I should go out and buy this CD today and treat it like a new release and devour it. Other than the obvious that is I will love it and it will become my summer of 2011 sound track.

We should all think about this.
how much do we all spend on tickets to a big show?
It would be awsome if we found out how much a private show cost from the hip.
We all pitch in and come up with a place and figure out how many can go and have our own private show.
We need someone who is an A type person to take charge and make this happen.
Is there any of those so called "A" type people on hipbase?
I mean really how much would you pay for a private show for say 500 or even just 200 people on a farm somewhere?
Im thinkin easy we would all pay a significant amount.
Now thats an idea but Im more of a "C" type personality that wants someone else to do the work and I just help out.

Guaranteed? or up for debate? Would you be pissed if they didn't play it? Does it matter? Would you trade a Highway Girl for no Bob in Bob?

The first show of the 2009 tour!
A ballsy setlist that starts with a 10min epic and includes Music@Work rarities throughout!
In other words, get the fan-made DVD from thehiptracker.com.

The 2011 World Cup of Rugby will be held in New Zealand from September 9 - October 23 and as most of you probably (hopefully) know, Canada has qualified. Now I am not a huge Rugby fan, I was first interested in it in the last World Cup back in 2007. I don't watch any club rugby, only international matches interest me. It is my understanding that we have a half decent team this time around and we weren't drawn into the hardest of groups so we all have reason to be optimistic. Qualifying for the quarter-finals would be a huge success for Canada. I believe the tournament will only be televised by Setanta unfortinatly but hopefully Sportsnet will get the rights to Canada's matches as they have televised their qualifiers vs. USA. The tournament format is pretty simple, 4 groups of 5 teams each play eachother once. The top two teams advance to the quarter-finals, the third place team automatically qualifies for the 2015 Rugby World Cup (but do not advance) and teams placed 4th and 5th are eliminated. Here are how the groups look....

POOL A
CANADA
France
Japan
New Zealand
Tonga

POOL B
Argentina
England
Georgia
Romania
Scotland

POOL C
Australia
Ireland
Italy
Russia
USA

POOL D
Fiji
Namibia
Samoa
South Africa
Whales

I realize the tournament is still a few months away so this post is a little early but I figured I would post it now because Canada will be playing the USA in what is called the Churchhill Cup. The match will be played on Saturday August 6 in Toronto at BMO Field. This will basically be Canada's final warm-up/farewell match before the big tournament.
