Concert promoters are thwarting the traditional scalper, and scalping the tickets themselves.
Tickets to high demand events are never on sale for the regular price in the first place!

What brought this on (for myself) was hearing of a recent onsale of a rare Garth Brooks show at the upcoming Calgary stampede.

Reportedly tickets "sold out" in 58 seconds, only to (as expected) show up on reselling sites by the hundreds.
- Who really put them there?

I'm Darrin and I run the rheostaticslive.com site
I totally forgot to mention this here - myself and Noah Campbell spent from December through March working on the latest Rheostatics Live release. The album is a 3 "CD" download via <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.rheostatics.zunior.com">http://www.rheostatics.zunior.com</a><!-- m --> (run by Dave Ulrich of The Inbreds). It is titled Green Sprouts Music Week 1993 and is essentially an assemblage of songs from the 8 shows played at Ultrasound Showbar in Toronto on their first Green Sprouts Music Week. We took the best and most interesting versions of songs and edited it all together to run like one big long show over 3 discs. It is pretty amazing stuff from the band in their prime.
The first single is a stripped down version of Record Body Count similar to the one performed as the last song at Massey Hall on March 30 2007.

We put together this from Martin Tielli's original Prairie Grouper painting as well as 3 other 2 panel inserts and 3 disc art images.
We also put together a bonus disc for people who purchase the set.


From April 12th to April 18th 1993, The Rheostatics played their first of many Green Sprouts Music Weeks. Over the course of 8 shows in 7 days the Rheostatics performed over 175 unique renderings of songs at Ultrasound Showbar in Toronto, considered by many of the musical luminaries of the 90's Toronto scene to be the greatest venue.

Following on the heels of their iconic Melville and Whale Music albums, the Rheostatics were road-testing material that would ultimately be recorded for their most varied and daring album; Introducing Happiness. At the time of this run of shows they were playing many of those songs, some of which were still in the developmental stage. They were not yet aware that a girl named Claire and a soundtrack to the Whale Music Movie would precede the recording of that album.

Featured on this set are not only embryonic versions of songs bridging the gap between mythology and history for fans, but 7 unreleased songs, some of which have not been heard by anyone since the spring of 93. Written at the zenith of the bands creative peak, many who are not familiar with the quality of work which was released in that time period, will be left scratching their heads in amazement at the songs left by the shoreline. Two of the shows took place in the afternoon starting the tradition of at least one all ages show at some point during their GSMW/Fall National residencies.

The 1993 shows also featured a host of guest musicians including Chris Brown and Gene Hardy of The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, Lewis Melville, Dave Allen and Kevin Hearn who at that time was still in The Look People. Bob Snider and The Inbreds were the opening acts throughout the week. Dave Ulrich of The Inbreds would go on to start Zunior.com, which is where this brand new 3 CD distillation of material from those 8 shows can be purchased for download as of March 30 2012.

Live stream all weekend - fantastic line up this year but unfortunately only a subset of the bands are on the webcast.

Realised I hadn't been on the HB for a while, so thought I would pop in while on 'Dynamic Cover' (ambulance speak for being in a carpark away from the tv and kettle... Undecided ) and see I have 40 pages of catching up to do!!!

Might not manage to get through all of that, I only have 4 hours of my shift left, anyone want to do a 'Last episode on Hipbase.com....' roundup of what I missed? ;-)

I promise to be more attentive from now on.

I'm just assuming there's lots of Wilco fans here on Hipbase... because lets face it. Wilco is one of the most talented group of musicians ever compiled together. I don't think they have made a single dud record, and their discography takes you many different places.

Along with The Hip, Wilco are in my top three favourite bands. If you've never listened to their albums, I strongly suggest trying out a listen.

Live, Wilco pulls off beautiful live renditions of their complex music. 'Ashes Of American Flags' is an amazing tour documentary jammed packed with live performances.
