*** SOLD *** We can't make the Montreal show on August 30th so I have 2 general admission hard copy tickets for sale. We paid $120 and I will let them go for $80 plus a few bucks for shipping.
Supporting acts are Spoon, FRAKA, Dan Deacon.
Drop me a PM if you are interested.
The wife and I went to see Gord Downie and Josh Finlayson at the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival in Bowring Park on August 9th. After a couple of sub par Hip shows, this solo show proved to be a fantastic breath of fresh air. This was his first solo show in our province. Gord was singing every song so spot on, so much better than the screaming. It was a 12 song set featuring 3 Hip tunes, Bobcaygeon with Josh on keyboards was a very nice rendition, Family Band which was great, and Thompson Girl which I hear for the first time after a couple dozen hip shows over the years. We were right up in the front and our friend said he has some great pics and video. I'll post when I receive. Here is the setlist, songs 5-8 might be in wrong order:
1. SF Song
2. Dance and its Disappearance
3. The Drowning Machine
4. Bobcaygeon
5. Vancouver Divorce
6. Family Band
7. Thompson Girl
8. Yellow Days
9. Chancellor
10. Figment
11. 11th Fret
12. Canada Geese
Once again, Fantastic Show
Can't wait to get my hands on this!
In stores and iTunes 09/16/14. Remastered original album, outtakes, full album demoed, live tracks, acoustic song, cd booklet with fresh artwork and more.
Anyone else going?

Great excuse to go back to Nfld for a week - haven't made it to Gros Morne before, so really looking forward to that.
Lolla is streaming a bunch of great bands over the weekend starting Friday afternoon.

Congratulations to Rob Baker on his receiving the 2014 Padre Laverty Award from the Kingston Branch of the Queen’s University Alumni Association for his contribution to Canada’s cultural life and his dedication and commitment to Kingston and Queen’s.

Rob Baker: Tragically Tricolour
In recognition of his contribution to Canada’s cultural life and his dedication and commitment to Kingston and Queen’s, Rob Baker, BFA’86, has been awarded the 2014 Padre Laverty Award from the Kingston Branch of the Queen’s University Alumni Association.
“Rob Baker may be a famous rock star but he has never forgotten his Kingston and Queen’s roots,” says Kingston Branch president Lee Wetherall.
Lead guitarist for iconic rock band The Tragically Hip, Rob is being honoured for both his musical career and for the way he supports his community. He is a big supporter of the Kingston arts communities, mentors local youth and lends his time and talent to a number of local charitable organizations. From manning a Salvation Army kettle during the Christmas holidays to serving as a judge at Queen’s Three-Minute Thesis contest, performing in local theatre, coaching youth sports and cultivating the arts, Rob enriches the Queen’s and Kingston communities.
This show wasn't listed on the websites and was sold out, although I have seen this venue much more packed than it was.
There is some good footage and my thoughts on the show in general in Episode 70 of my show:

Tommy Ramone passed away yesterday. One of the original founders of the band and last surviving member. Had a chance to see these guys at Exhibition Stadium for the Canadian World Music Festival (Toronto, July 2, 1979). Regrettably they were booed off the stage by a rather ignorant crowd waiting for the likes of Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Johnny Winter, AC/DC, and Nazareth :nooooo
In true Ramones style they flipped the bird at the 50K in attendance as they left the stage.

They are finally reunited again.
