Hi all. My name is Jenna and I'm a student here in Syracuse. I'm a huge Hip fan and am recently new to the band (1997). I've seen the Hip 4 times (2x in Philly, Once in Buffalo, and another time in Syacuse), and Gord as a solo act once (in Philly). I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend, (who I met at a Hip show), acting, reading, writing, and music (hip, bnl, ben folds, counting crows, etc). That's about all I have to say for now. :thumb:
Just came out of a very fascinating Sociology class where we discussed this...what do you guys think? Personally, I wish that Clear Channel didnt have as much power over music selection played on the air, but on the other hand I don't think the average person really cares what they hear on the radio as long as they like it;its nonconformists like us that want to hear a different variety of music on the radio and not getting it cause a majority of people treat music as wallpaper, just something to listen to. Discuss
This thing keeps kicking me out when I move to a different topic!
Is anyone else having this problem?
Sorry to post here but I couldn't under the appropriate one?
Thanks,
Angie
I was watching the Buffalo Bills trounce the Jaguars this afternoon and during a break a commercial for McDonald's came on. It's where a guy is sitting on a park bench, and then a truck gets dropped on him.
During the first zoom in on the guy, "dugg.ca" is written on the bench. Later, "dugg.ca" flashes quickly on a TV screen.
I checked out the site, and it is strange. Nothing to do with McDick's as far as I can tell. Check http://www.dugg.ca and let me know if you can figure it out.
It ended up telling me that it likes Justin Timberlake, and it isn't sure about CANADA.

Well, it's 1:30 Sunday morning and I'm just getting in from what was a great show! It was my first time in the new UPEI Student Centre and what a perfect show for my initiation.
The show started at about 10:15 with Summersides own Nathan Wiley, playing songs from his first CD, Bottom Dollar Baby. If you haven't heard this guy, I strongly recommend checking him out.
Shortly after Nathan finished (about 11:15 - 11:30) Gord and the band kicked it off with 11th Fret (my personal favorite). Now i was able to snag the setlist after the show...but everything that was played wasn't on the list. He did a number of covers, including The Man Comes Around by Cash.
But the setlist I have is as follows:
- 11th Fret
- Figment
- Canada Geese
- Vancouver Divorce
- Chancellor
- Yer Possessed
- Steeple
- Nobody (I assume a cover)
- Pillform #3
- Pascal's
- Christmas time in Toronto
I believe these are encores, but then again, he did way more than this. It was such a blur, I can't remember if there was 2 or 3 encores.....but they were there to make this one last as it was the final show.
- Trick Rider
- Into the Night
- I wants to (??)
There's a bit of a review for you guys. Besides a couple of morons messing the show up by fighting, it was a great night! Picked up my first Julie Doiron CD.....a girl from my hometown.
right.....sleep is needed.
see ya
3:15am Just getting in from the marquee after waiting for Gord to come out. The show was awesome! 2 encores! Im too beat to say much more. Gord was in fine form and the CoM was awesome! I took 2 rolls of pictures. Neil (Lightonthewater) had his digital cam and Rory took some also.
My first time meeting Gord. He was very approachable and had a short chat with him. He signed my CMG Poetry book "Darren's orange number. Enjoy - Gord Downie"
Was great to meet all the fellow Hipbasers before the show and at the show. Jamie, Lance and Lynnette, Rory and his fiance, Neil and Darren (another one).
Quotes heard while waiting and talking to Gord:
"I just smoked a joint with Gord Downie"
"What colour is yours (pen)?" Pam: "Green" Gord: "Cooool"
Laters!
Darren "Gord took my sharpy" Highlander
It looks like this band has broken up and are done- but with these things you never really know-

Hey Guys
It's getting to that time again, I think I'm going to have a Hip & Others hockey pool... it'll be a great way of getting bragging rights and keeping track of people in your pool.... I'm trying to get 50 people to join at $20 a person, so there'd be a total of $1000 in the pool.. this isn't very difficult considering that I've talked to about 10 people and they're already all in... there's also a benefit for referring people.. for every 5 people you get to sign under you, you get a free entry (but you need to get 1 entry at $20 first)... anyway it's going to be fairly straight foward. 25 categories with 5 people in each category and you choose 1 person... you get a point for every goal and assist that person gets.... there'll be 2 categories where you have to choose the person who you think will get the most penalty minutes. For ONLY those two categories, the Penalty minutes are divided by 4, and the goals and assists DO NOT count.. there's also going to be 4 categories of goalies. you get 2 pts for every win the goalie gets, and 1 pt for every tie. you also get 3 pts per shutout... anyway, I do NOT get a "person signed up" under me for people who join here. Anyway I'm hoping that I can get at least those 50 people. ALL the money stays in the pool. $30 is taken out because I'm going to sign up the pool on a website where people can trash talk etc with each other, $30 will be taken out because I'm going to buy a trophy for the winner, and $5 for stamps etc. there's going to be monthly prizes as well as 5 final prizes.... anyway I'll post more info soon. PM if you're interested and try to get 5 people under you!!!
Anyone remember this band when they were opening for the HIP, (2000 era-I think)
They're opening for Sam Robert's here in Kingston on Monday at AJ's.
I remember them as high energy, fun......?
I guess i better get to the bar early, it's gonna be a FUN night!!
