I was checking out the Lee's Palace website (Lee's is a live music club in Toronto - http://www.leespalace.com) and noticed a band that goes by the name of "The Men They Couldn't Hang" (http://www.tmtch.net) who played there in 1986. So did The Hip!

I wonder if they are who Gord refers to in the song, or is he just referring to men they couldn't hang in general? cratch:

Between the Lee's Palace site, and The Horseshoe site there are a lot of Hip references.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got in from watching the Aurora Borealis and WOWWWWWEEEEEE!!!! It was one of the best displays I've seen in my life!!!! The sky was green and the red streaks were blood red going up to the top of the sky!

I hope some others saw it. I took 2 rolls of pictures. Ill post when i get them processed.

Can anyone help me? I'm looking for one of the "An Evening With The Tragically Hip" posters. The Ontario version, with the dates 12/3/00, 12/5/00, 12/6/00, 12/21/00 & 12/23/00. I've been searching patiently for quite a while, hoping to find this poster. Other posters from this tour have turned up on ebay, but I still haven't seen this one. Of all the Hip concerts I've been to, this is the only poster I'm missing. I would really like to add it to my collection. Is anyone who has this willing to part with it? I think I remember the Hip selling about 5 posters from this tour in a package online. Maybe someone bought them all, but really only wanted one or two of them? Here is the only picture I've been able to find of this poster. Thanks!

I have been thinking about this for a while and lately...I've almost completely ignored Live Between Us. There are so many boots that rock harder than the official live album...like the Camp Trillium Benefit 1999 (#1 IMHO), Hengelo 1991, Coyotes 1991, Brussels 1994, Chicago ("Martyrs"), Freaked in Sweden, Glastonbury 96, and the new Sympatico webcast (still waiting for audio!)...the list goes on and on!!

What about you guys...what do you like to listen to more than LBU?

I DL'd the Hamburg boot and one of the three extra tracks is a version of Gift Shop which Gord introduces by saying "this first one is sort of about the Grand Canyon." I LOVE this version and the sound is A+++...I was wondering if anybody knows what show it is from?!? I'll be forever indebted to anyone who can tell me! :thumb:

Before i start on about the show i want you all to know i wish you could have been there as well.

Here's the story. On Monday i got a call about this show and was asked if i wanted to be on the guest list. Being a huge hip fan like of all of you i of course said yes. I work at a local radio station in Vancouver and the call came from a friend of mine who knew the guy that was organizing the sho. From what i heard the shows were invite only. A few people who were waiting outside since 8am i think got in. They better have. It was cold out there!

So of we went last night after work. We arrived at the Boot Pub at 8pm and sure enough our names were on the guest list. There was a $20 cover charge that went to victims of the Floods in the Whistler/Pemberton area.

This place was ridiculously small! I think my living room is bigger???

I asked one of the Hips entourage why they were playing these shows. What he said was that The Tragically Hip are in town writing new material and wanted to play a small venue to test some of the material out. After deciding on the Boot Pub, they decided to donate all ticket sales to the Flood Relief Efforts.

Ok so now with the show.. My friends and i managed to get right up front. So close that you could get soaked by the sweat coming of the band.

As you can see the played a whole whack of new songs. Of course the titles are extremely edited on the song sheet. Sorry i can't give you the full names of all the new songs.

Which new songs stood out?
Fighter was by far my favorite of the new songs. It totally rocked. It will be a classic Hip live tune.

Makeshift was another highlight. It had a good rockin beat with Gord and Paul doing some great backups in the chorus.

Another stand out was What's up With Gus. A song Gord described as a song about a Polar Bear named Gus.

Judging from what i heard. I have a feeling the new album is going to be quite rocking so we have something awesome to look forward to.

After Blow At High Dough came on the crowd decided it was time to push to the front and some big guy started wreaking havoc. After the tech guy came and warned him to cool it they pointed at security to get him out of there. At the point Gord Downie starts yelling "Watch out we have a flailer. We have a flailer. Flailer!" as he is being ushered to the back. Quite an amusing moment but maybe you had to be there.

Well that's about all i can type for now. I will be posting the photos on <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.rock101.com">www.rock101.com</a><!-- w --> by 3pm today. Not sure how well they turned out. I hate using a digital camera from the front row as the flash even on the lowest level is freakin bright.
