Great show last night at the 'Shoe...

The show opened with "Any Day Now" and closed with just Joey Serlin and Danny Greaves on stage doing Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" to close out the second encore...a fitting way to go out...

In between, there was 90 minutes of the band laying it all out, despite Danny's fighting a flu bug...Lots of old stuff mixed in with the newer material from Slomotion (which takes on a life of it's own live), with personal highlights being "Run & Hide", "Calm", "Come Around", the audience participation in "All Uncovered" and Danny's rendition of Billy Bragg's "Between the Wars"...

All in all, it was exactly what I expected - a great night of tunes covering the band's 12 years...

Hi everyone -

I am not particularly fond of boots that are compilations of songs from different shows. Because of this, I have been on a quest to determine where exactly the songs on Glastonbury and elsewhere come from.

After having listened to this boot extremely closely, I have come to the conclusion that there are three different sources for this show, possibly four. before I go on to explain this, let me give a track listing so that we are all on the same page.

1. Locked
2. Springtime
3. IOD
4. Scared
5. Fully
6. Nautical
7. Looking
8. Meridian
9. Fully (again)
10. Wherewithal
11. Locked (again)
12. Courage
13. El Do
14. 50 MC
15. I'll Believe in you

Okay. So, as near as I can determine, tracks 1-6 come from one source, tracks 7 & 8 come from another source, tracks 9-14 come from another source, and track 15 comes from yet another source.

I've arrived at this conclusion by carefully listening to what is going on during the last few seconds of one track as it transitions into the next track. Also if you listen to the characteristics of the recording itself, especially the drums, you can tell that there are altogether different recordings (not to mention that two songs are on the boot twice).

I think I've pinned down the first recording, tracks 1-6, to be some time in 1995. The fact that Springtime is in this portion of the recording but no other TATH songs are tells me that it was during the DFN tour and that Springtime was being played as a brand new song.

Tracks 9-14 are likely the portion of the boot that comes from Glastonbury (if in fact any of it really does come from Glastonbury). Gord introduces Courage with a line from Nautical - "4000 men died in the water, and 500 were thrashing madly." If DFN had been released yet, he wouldn't have referenced Nautical to intro Courage. The Glastonbury show was in July of 94; DFN was released later that year.

That leaves tracks 7, 8 & 15. These three may actually come from the same show, or perhaps 15 comes from somewhere else. Anyway, does anyone have any idea where these tracks are from?

More importantly, does anyone know where tracks 1-6 are from? I've searched the setlists and cannot find any show that has a "run" of Locked, Springtime, IOD, Scared, Fully, Nautical in that order.

Any help is appreciated.

I was listening to the 97-07-21 sask festival site show, and during NOIS, they rip out a few minutes of "I can only give you everything", I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the full song or if it was ever even played as a song not just a RANT

Hey all. I was just listening to a local station that has started playing nothing but Christmas music and I heard some amazing covers done by local artists and I started thinking, what song would I want to hear The Hip play? I pondered while I waited in line at Borders (nothing like last minute shopping) and decided it would be great to hear them cover Blue Christmas. Anyone have other thoughts?

I'm afraid to say the hip "jumped the shark" with the album Music @ work. I have always been a huge hip fan but since that album, their writing, recording and performing have been weak in comparison to projects like day for night, or the trouble at the henhouse tour. It has taken me a long time to get over the denial, but the truth is that great bands seem to have a solid lifetime of 10 years, after these years bands seem to tread water before drowning with age. I would like to see Gordy D fully and completely focus on his solo career and poetry. It seems as a unit they are floundering, but Gord's potential is untapped. Heres to the beginning of the end.........I hope!

I am a music guy, first and foremost. By a long ways. For distractions after that I enjoy physical recreation, followed by movies with television pulling in at a distant last place. I have no prime time shows that I watch. I do not have cable or satellite. If I watch any early evening tv with any regularity at all, it is sports (baseball in general or MN TWolves basketball). The one show I do try to catch if I'm at home evenings is Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He has been planning a Toronto stint for his NY based show for awhile now. Looks like things are coming together for what will be a great spin on the only show I watch. So now Conan is trying to figure out which guests to book. See this webpage:
