morning everyone. hope you enjoyed the show as much as i did. pretty good week seeing 2 hip shows and all.

I snapped quite afew pics last night (exactly 200) and thought id share them here for anyone interested. Hope someone recorded the show and is willing to share

i figure they'll be the album cover on the front and tour dates on the back like normal. i hope they have better hats too.......... :jump

Driving to the to show today. Saw 20 times more portugal flags and greece flags than canadian. Thats freakin upseting!!!

Just got home, great night, better than any IVL show I saw... 24 songs... Gord and Joel Plaskett sang the national anthem right before Plaskett's set.

  102.1 Sucks - The Mod Club

I was at The Mod Club show on the 29th - and it sounded great.
I just downloaded the Mod Club show from the 29th.
And man - does it sound like CRAP.
OK, not what I downloaded, that is probably what it sounded like on the radio.
Listening to the download - I remember now why I do not like The Hip on 102.1.
I do not know why but the mix they do or whatever they do to the audio of the music at 102.1 for normal radio just sucks. Kinda out of balance or like you are missing half of the audio. Almost like you are in a tunnel.
I do not know anything about it, but all the other audio stations out of Canada sound good. Like the CD's.
102.1 does not.
The show sounded pretty damn good live - and 102.1 just killed it.
I hope to god that the Sympatico broadcast is a different audio feed.
Then you guys out of the 102.1 listening area will see what I mean.

I was flipping channels and at 3 PM central time and I was shocked to find the two Gord's doing and interview on Select on MTV Canada. The interview was about 10 minutes long and they played VS. Just giving everyone a heads up since they show it two or three more times between now and tomorrow...I'm not sure times though.

Just in time to provide the perfect soundtrack for Canada Day, "In Between Evolution", the eleventh album from quintessential Canuck rockers, The Tragically Hip, hits stores June 29th.

A band that always satisfies with their dementedly brilliant live shows (as showcased on their live CD, Music @ Work), The Hip wisely let audience response to their new songs guide the polishing process. "We didn't belabour the songs too much. We got them down in rehearsal, then went out and played them live. We got them succinct. When you take new songs and play them in front of a crowd, that's the last necessary stage to figure out what they need or don't need", said Gordon Downie, the guy with the distinctive pipes.

In order to shine, the album required few touch-ups, and producer Adam Kasper (Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age) kept them to a minimum. As a result, "In Between Evolution" perfectly showcases the gritty, raw and singular sound of the five childhood friends who've been rockin' out together since they formed the band in Kingston, Ontario in 1983. The band members liken this album to Road Apples, their 1991 release that made The Tragically Hip a household name.

The difference is that The Hip's new songs take a broader worldview. Although it's never explicitly stated, the war in Iraq was obviously on Downie's mind when he penned the pensive lyrics. He says the upbeat album opener, "Heaven is a Better Place Today", which The Hip dedicated to Dan Snyder, a hockey player with the Atlanta Thrashers who died at the age of 25, is "also about guys that age going off to fight [in a war]".
"Are We Family", with its beautifully underdone composition plays in contrast to Sister Sledge's '70s soul anthem "We Are Family". "Are we family, or not", ponders Downie, "taking care of each other, one bullet to another". This is not to say "In Between Evolution" isn't a suitable beer-drinking backdrop, it's just the themes, if one pays attention, are also suitable for quiet reflection.

With Downie's wavering voice, thoughtful lyrics, frenetic stage presence, and the group's ever-dueling guitars, The Tragically Hip have won a loyal following as well as critical acclaim. Neither is likely to abate with "In Between Evolution", another testament to their successful marriage of unencumbered rock and probing thoughts.

So it's now eleven in the morning and I've been knockin back the beers since about seven... Ha ha! Happy Canada Day all you hipbase canucks! Although I have mixed feelings about "patriotism" and feel holidays in recent years have lost all meaning, i'll gladly sacrifice my principles for beer and BBQ... Whoo!.... Yeah... I got a buzz goin....

My Question is....is it the the same ten bucks? lol.....


also, whats with Gordies obsession with "swimming" like, at the end of poets (especially the woodstock boot), new orleans, and now heart of the melt? I'm sure there is more as well...
