One of the biggest reasons so many people love this band is because they have great music, and great lyrics. In these forums, I always see people post lyrics as to why they love certain songs. Do some people actually prefer good lyrics to good music?

For me personally, the music counts as 90% while the lyrics, only about 10%. I love Gord's lyrics, but one of my favorite songs is I'll Believe In You, and this doesn't really have awesome lyrics like most of the other stuff.

Then take a song like Titanic Terrarium or Throwing Off Glass. The lyrics are just awesome, but the music not so hot, so I really don't like these songs that much.

And think about this one, If Nautical Disaster didn't have really great lyrics, would you still love it?

OK...what do we think of the way Downie's singing has evolved over the years? He's gone from a more gutteral, leather-lunged style (filled with expectorations like the 'BLAKH!' in the middle of Blow at High Dough) to a more fragile-sounding, warbly style with echoes of Geddy Lee on 'Heart of the Melt.' Which Gord do you prefer? Why?

So I am driving home from Calgary to Drumheller, listening to my B-sides CD and Get Back Again comes on. Now I love this song, it is #3 on my top ten after only Nautical and Escape, but something about it just hit me right then. I got the usual chills and goosebumps when Paul sings the backing vocals and you can hear his dylanesque voice so clearly, and when the lines "If I'd never seen you, I could always dream that, I'd be better off alone" are sung, but it really got me thinking.

We (my brother and I) met the boys at the Queen E in 2002 and we actually had a chance to talk with Paul just him and us, and I'd have loved to let him know how impressive I think his voice is. I'd always hoped he might take a larger role in the singing, such as turning up his backing vocals or even duetting as he did with Gord on Get Back Again. It kills me that I never took the opportunity to let him know how much I love his vocals.

Thinking about that made me even sicker that this song was never recorded and released. This is an amazing song, and how they thought it didn't fit is beyond me. The vocals are beautiful, the guitar work is great. To me, its simple yet complex very much like Scared.

I want to know what everyone else thinks...to me this is the biggest tragedy of all for hip fans that this never saw light on an album. I know Blonde Solid and Montreal are frickin amazing too, but to me this is the one I'd pick of all the B-sides that should have made an album.

Let me know what you think, if I knew how to run those poll thingamajiggers I'd ask which B-side you guys thought should have been on an album, but until a computer person can set that up, let me know what you think in here.

Anyone know any good places for Hip posters in the GTA?

My girlfriend recently had all of my posters from the last few tours plaqued and hung them in our office in our new house and it looks great! I have a bunch on order from Maple Music but I never seem to be able to find any locally. I would love to get a few more. I'm between Newmarket and Barrie but any leads in the GTA would be appreciated.

Thanks in adavance hipsters

Okay, so i was bored and made some cuz I noticed some people don't have one. So all ya do is save it and upload it as your avatar in your profile and then post a reply here using your avatar and then people will know not to use that one. I'll make more in the future too. Hopefully enjoy! If anybody has something specific they want as an avatar, PM me and I'll whip something up like a favorite animal or something. I don't mind. I actually enjoy playing around with this stuff. :thumb:

Okay, I couldn't post the avatars here. So go here for my gallery;

did this on-air the other day, and got lots of great line-ups...choose your singer,bass player, drummer etc... dead or alive and make them your ultimate group...had lots of calls for flea on bass, and lots for dave grohl on drums..interested to see what people have to say....
