Sorry if I'm late to this party... but holy hell, why haven't I listened to her 4 albums (plus that one with David Byrne) until this year is beyond me.
All of them are phenomenal, and I am blown away by this band/artist/whatever St. Vincent is.
I started with the most recent, and worked my way back.
Watch her Live on Letterman performance! She absolutely shreds on it.
Anybody else a St. Vincent convert?
I've never, ever been more excited about a major league sports franchise in my 44 years on this here planet. The Pats always win; that's boring. The Leafs always lose; that's boring. The 2015 Toronto Blue Jays roster as of August 1st may be the finest collection of baseball players I've ever, personally, witnessed. What about the 1992 or 1993 Jays you say? Who knows! Back then you couldn't watch & listen to all 162 games on the MLB app or Sportsnet, which I do. Alex Anthopoulos has pulled off a year that may go down as the greatest year in the history of general managers. The HUGE added bonus is that my 8 & 6 year old sons are just as excited as I am. Thank you Alex Anthopoulos. Even if they miss the playoffs, they'll still have a GREAT team for years to come, AND, they're never, ever, never out of a game.
I've read several times in interviews from the band (Robbie mainly), that they feel In Violet Light didn't turn out the way they had hoped it would.
I think this is a borderline insane statement, as IVL has many songs I regard as Hip Classics.
One of my all time favourites has always been 'Use It Up'. Listening to bootlegs from 2002, I absolutely love it when they would start the show with 'Use It Up' - the pre-recorded drum track creeping onto the PA as the crowd roars when the boys come out.
'Use It Up' isn't just an IVL fav, it's one of my fav hip tunes period.
When opening a show, I always felt that the lyrics would almost challenge the audience to immerse themselves in The Hip experience, and to let go of reality for the remainder of the show. "For music that can take you away"
Also, I like to think the line "Don't save a thing for later" can be applied to the band also challenging itself: There is no tomorrow, only now. Rock the fuck out.
If it were up to me, I would have started the album with Use It Up, and saved Are You Ready for someplace else on the tracklist.
Anybody else have some love (or hate) for IVL track #2?
Please PM me if you have 2 tickets for sale.

For all you Wilco fans, they just released a new album for free on their website. I'm downloading it right now, so I haven't had a chance to listen yet. Review to come shortly.
Oh, and apparently the title has nothing to do with the movies. I think they just thought it would be a funny way to get everyone's attention.

Just like last year at a different location, The Hip were hired to perform at a backyard concert last night in Hamilton on Auchmar Rd.
I'd say setlist to come but I am pretty sure you can all guess exactly what it was.
Article tomorrow in The Spectator.
