the official hip website no longer has the lyrics to their songs...could anyone help a brother out with a site that has the lyrics to all their songs? trying to turn some friends on to their music and this would help me out! :thumb:
btw...going to see them in grand rapids, MI. very small venue and I am soooooooooooooooooooooooo freakin geeked. skipping one of my college roommates weddings to see it...i mean...would'nt you?

Posting this here rather then in the show reviews since it encompasses 3 shows. (please let me know if it is preferred that I do something different)

Hip Trip II Sept 17-21 Portland, Me to Detroit, Cleveland and Boston
Sept 17 Depart Portland ME for long awaited Hip Trip II. It doesn’t feel quite complete without Sonny along though (We’ll pick him up in Boston.) Pick up Dave in MA. Head out for Syracuse.
Sept 18 Depart Syracuse for Detroit. Travel via Canada. Customs was a piece of cake. Spent 2 hours at Canadian Niagara Falls since Dave had never been there. Hear Tragically Hip playing in the gift shop there. Cool…we never get that in Maine!! US Customs another piece of cake. Arrive Dearborn, MI and Quality Inn Hotel that smells like a flood hit and they never recovered!
Sept 19 Awake with hours yet till the first of 3 Hip shows. We are all pumped and in need of something to do. Head for IMAX at the Henry Ford Museum to kill some time. Then, head into Detroit to check it out. Decide to drive by and check out the venue and the scene there. This night would give us the best opportunity to hang and wait for the band. It became obvious right away that that was not a likely possibility. The bus parking area was fenced off. There is a parking garage right across the street. $2 to park for the whole day! We parked there on the 3rd level, which was overlooking the area where the buses were parked. At one point we saw Rob going inside and yelled over and waved and he waved back. Then I had this BRILLIANT idea that we should tape up our L O C K E D letters up on the side of the garage where the band could see it. The guys loved this idea and started taping them up there when suddenly appears a security guard asking what they were doing. He told them they couldn’t do that and scolded them for having a beer and that there was no tailgating in the garage. Bob made friends with the guy and he was cool. They took down the letters, finished their beers and we headed for Hockeytown Cafe. I decide to peek over the edge just before we head down and there‘s a car dropping off Paul and Gord S from a golfing excursion. Bob asked how they shot and Paul did a shake of his hand. We all wave and they go in and we head out. Lots of Hip Heads in HockeyTown Cafe. We speak to a bunch…actually “meet” a few and run into Matt and Mark, people we know from prior Hip Trips. They both recorded the show.
The Fox Theatre is amazing! Very ornate. This is by far my favorite venue of the 3 shows. Plenty of room at our seats. Great view of the stage…especially since “the manager’s parent’s (their description when Bob asked) sat in front of us for ¾ of the show (then left). The PIT was the most civilized I have seen…at least till the very end when someone unplugged Gord D’s guitar and he and Billy Ray both got riled. Gord was in the midst of a One Night In Copenhagen and was totally thrown off and asked the band “Can we start over?” He had to ask twice as no one really noticed the first time. They hadn’t really seen what was happening. Then of course, at the end she tried to get up there again and Billy Ray grabbed her. Then this guy with her tried to grab a setlist and Billy Ray stomped his foot on the setlist near the guys hand. He was pissed! It was a good show but seemed to lack the energy we felt at Darien lakes. Not sure if this was because it was a smaller crowd or because Darien had been the first show we’d seen in a couple years…or both!! Show highlights were Scared, Silver Jet introduced by Gord D “for all you Gregory Peck Fans” for the guy in the crowd with the sign that read Gregory Peck Fans and 3 Pistols. BTW, Sam Roberts Band was very good.
We head back to Hockeytown Cafe to chat it up with the fans some more. See Amit and Lisa. I comment on the fact the crowd seems to be older then previous tours. Amit agrees and suggests that the new music isn’t appealing to the younger crowd as much and we Hip Fans are aging. Imagine!
I don’t feel the need to repeat a trip to Detroit. The city seems to have a lot of run down, closed buildings, although it does appear they are trying to rejuvenate that area we were in. (downtown?)
Sept 20 Head for Cleveland, OH and show #2. We arrive in Cleveland and get settled into our hotel then head immediately for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Something we have been looking forward to since music is a HUGE part of our lives. It was a wonderful experience and something I recommend to anyone who is a music buff. We buy our tickets and then head downstairs where the first item we encounter is a display with some Jerry Garcia guitars. How fitting for us!!
We head over to BW3 and grab some food and it’s getting late and we hurry to the show. We arrive at the Odeon just minutes prior to The Hip coming on. This is my least favorite venue. The place is packed and not really made for this type of concert. We wander around and try to find a place to stand and head WAY upstairs and to the back. There’s a bit of breathing room there. Bob heads for the floor after about 3 songs and I think he’s crazy heading into that crowd! He comes back a little later waving for us to come down. I shake my head and he insists. He says he found a great spot with some space up on the right side front. It’s kind of off to the side and not the best sound but at least we can see. While the venue wasn’t my favorite, I must say that this show had the best overall energy by the crowd and the band. The boys were smiling a lot. And appeared to be having a fun time, as was the crowd. I didn’t notice any crowd issues. Highlights…Fighter, Fighter. This venue had the best possibility of a band meet but with the Cleveland to Boston drive the following day we opted to head out after meeting some people after the show. Someone said “hey, there’s Bob and Fran…Hugh, Trevor, Chris and some others. Nice meeting everyone! Saw Mark and Matt again also. Chatted with them outside and made plans to hook back up for Rochester show where Mark claims he will present us with a copy of the long awaited Albany show for us. (where the band did LOCKED for us and Gord announcing it’s by request.) Do I dare to get excited? (Not yet Mark!!).
Cleveland was a really nice city and we would return there. Seems like a lot to do there. A lots of pan handlers though. Stayed at the Comfort Inn. It was nice and reasonably priced.
Sept 21 Head for Boston, MA. A long ass haul!! Took us about 9 ½ hours…not bad really. We were beat but all agreed we could do a show. Good thing we had the night off though. Are we getting too old for this? Nah…
Sept 22 I wake up pumped for tonight’s show. It’s like I haven’t even seen the band. It’s going to be a long day waiting. We head for the IMAX theatre to catch a couple 3D shows. We love these things. We decide that 2 in a row is one too many though. By the end of the 2nd one all you want to do is sleep.
We arrive at the Avalon early. Heading down the “alley” with all the Red Sox Fans since there was also a game that night. The Avalon is right behind the green monster!! This is a nice venue…for a GA show (…I prefer reserved shows myself). We claimed front right real estate and stayed put. We missed out on meeting a lot of people this way…but such is life. We did meet Jeff who happened by with someone we know…a friend of a friend…who we met at previous shows. Jeff has a pass to get access to the front for taking photo’s for the first 3 songs then came back and hung out near us for the show. Right in front of the speaker tower. Thank god for earplugs. Our ears still rang!! Sam Roberts Band did another great show. I really like these guys and we plan to purchase the CD. It was great being up front and watching all the members of the band. Johnny was very serious this show. I noticed Paul seemed more “interactive” then usual. He was making eye contact and watching Gord D a lot. He watches him with such interest during rants. It’s quite comical! (My friend Sonny mentioned this might be due to the fact that he isn’t allowed to smoke inside the venues. This made me realize I never saw him smoke. Wonder if he quit? Anyone notice?) I figured I would have to head to the back at some point when the crowd got unruly but it never happened…at least where we were. We had eye contact with all the members during the show and it was a great experience ending with Johnny handing Bob the drumsticks at the end of the first encore. A perfect ending to a great trip!!
Stats Overall we heard 68 songs in 3 shows
21 Songs we heard just once
10 Songs we heard twice
9 Songs were heard three times
I felt this was a pretty good mix of music. After all, they are touring to support a new CD and those songs are going to be heard a lot.
Looking forward to Rochester and Burlington and boring you all to death with the never-ending saga of our “Hip Trip”!

I'm going to the show on the 26th and am looking for a place that is within walking distance to the ACC - maybe like a 30 min walk at most. Are there any hotels this close or will you have to drive?

Just wondering if someone familiar with the downtown TO area could list me a few hotels that they would suggest as I would like to book it fairly soon. Thanks a ton!

I know they advertised the Sheraton Centre when I bought my tix.
