...In 2009. Conan, Jay and the NBC goons worked out a deal today where Jay will retire at 59, after 17 years as host of The Tonight Show, and allow Conan to take over.

I know there were some folks around here who wanted to see Conan take the 12:30 spot after Dave on CBS, but in the long run, this has to be better for him...

Jon Stewart is now seriously rumoured to be CBS's number 1 replacement for Dave. Jon is done with Comedy Central in 2008.

So, come fall 2009, it looks like we could have Letterman vs. Leno replaced by O'Brien vs. Stewart.

A lot of talk about Jay being pushed/pressured to take the deal, so it should be interesting to see who says what about the deal on their respective shows...

What type of seating is there going to be there?

Anyone have a pic of the floorplan?

Hey all,

So there's gonna be a great show here in Calgary on Friday night at Mac Hall (UofC) and I now find myself with 2 extra tickets that I need to get rid of.

If anyone's interested in going to the show, let me know and I can hook you up with 2 GA tickets. They're $30 after all the ticketbastard charges but I'll even eat the charges if needed.

Just wanted to start a poll, to see how it works.
My friends and I were talking about this, this weekend - and all of us live in very different places.

...is the lighting for these small venue shows. People complained about it during the Syracuse and NYC shows...and I'd like to sign up for that disgruntled list for the 9:30 Club show!

I think the lighting would be fabulous for a big arena...but for the small clubs, OUCH...it's super bright and very harsh on the eyes. I found at times it was tough to see the band, it was more like a silouette up there, rather than the band. And trying to see Gord sometimes was impossible, the brightness was that intense.

Anyone else find the same problem?? I realise I have super bad eyes, but it was a bit much...no??

Hey all.......so i clicked on the link in the downloads area here and watched the latest Hip video for vacination scar..(if ya haven`t seen it yet go check it out)....I.M.H.O.......I kinda found that it didn`t really represent what I feel the Hip really are all about...it was more to promote the artist that did the cover drawings more than anything...which is cool in a way as i find his work somewhat entertaining.....but there was no real uhhmmmn focus on the Hip themselves as a band.....what does everyone else think?.....cheers

shutout for the first time since 1977....ouch...and to the seahawks...when they first did the re-allignment i was excited to have the hawks in my division...2 easy wins right? how was i to know things would change..however, about that streak...won't be broken until at least 2018!! i have to hold onto something.....

Judge Strikes Down Anti-Bootleg Law



A New York federal judge on Friday struck down a 1994 law banning the sale of bootleg recordings of live music, ruling the law unfairly grants "seemingly perpetual protection" to the original performances.

U.S. District Judge Harold Baer Jr. dismissed a federal indictment of Jean Martignon, who runs a Manhattan mail-order and Internet business that sells bootleg recordings.

Baer found the bootleg law was written by Congress in the spirit of federal copyright law, which protects writing for a fixed period of time -- typically for the life of the author and 70 years after the author's death. But the judge said the bootleg law, which was passed "primarily to cloak artists with copyright protection," could not stand because it places no time limit on the ban.

Baer also noted that copyright law protects "fixed" works -- such as books or recorded music releases -- while bootlegs, by definition, are of live performances.

A federal grand jury indicted Martignon in October 2003 for selling "unauthorized recordings of live performances by certain musical artists through his business." The business, Midnight Records, once had a store in Manhattan but now operates solely by mail and Internet. It sells hundreds of recordings, specializing in rock artists, from the Beatles to Led Zeppelin.

A spokesperson for the Manhattan U.S. attorney said federal prosecutors were "reviewing the decision and will evaluate what steps ought to be taken going forward."

The Recording Industry Association of America also disagreed with the ruling. A spokesperson said the decision "stands in marked contrast to existing law and prior decisions that have determined that Congress was well within its constitutional authority to adopt legislation that prevented trafficking in copies of unauthorized recordings of live performances."

The bootleg law calls for prison terms of up to five years for first offenders and 10 years for second offenders, plus fines. It requires courts to order the destruction of any bootlegs created in violation of the law. The law did not apply to piracy, which is the unauthorized copying or sale of recorded music.
