Now that everyone has had their say on the new song what does everyone think about the album cover?
When I think of classic album covers this one is about as far way from them as it can get.
Born To Run. Sgt. Pepper. Joshua Tree. Zeppelin 1. You can picture these right now can't you??
A flying baby? Really? I'm afraid the metaphor is lost on me. Do you really want this image on your wall?
Hello All
Does anyone know if there is a copy of the Hips egos and icons episode floating around....my daughter is quickly becoming a fan of the band, and the stories Gord weaves of the great white north...i thought it would be fun to show her the episode as I was interviewed on it....
Its been some time since my last visit here....its great to see things are still going strong.
Thanks

I would like to talk about In A World Possessed. A lot of people really like the new song. I think I understand that, but don't feel the same way.
Like only my least favorite Tragically Hip songs, there's no chorus. Let’s start with that. There are changes in the music but no hook. Gord Downie sounds great, his voice almost fully recovered. But where's the melody? Even the verse melody has the feel of something improvised and barely revised. The bass is just two notes for most of the song. They wrote this from chord changes instead of jamming in a room. It feels like Gord's solo work. There's no guitar solo.
As of the last album – Now For Plan A – there’s a sense that the The Hip have entered a new phase, one where their classic rock tactics and bucolic prettiness coexist on every song. That album wasn’t split between rockers and ballads; every song was both. This single continues that trend. If this is the track they thought might get play on radio, I can only imagine that there isn’t an obvious single on the new album. The production work is sympathetic, the music is pleasant and pretty, and nothing here is especially memorable.
I have been saying for a long time that something needs to change with this band. But maybe what needs to change is me. They just don’t seem interested in fan service anymore. For better or worse, that album was World Container. Nowadays, they are committed to following their own bliss. They seem to be doing this for the love of it, which is commendable. But they’re never going to be the band I fell in love with again. Maybe I need to adjust my expectations. How many times can I be disappointed before it's my fault?
Because the truth is that I’ve now spent more than a decade waiting for another riff that thrilled me like the one on Looking for A Place to Happen, another dark-hearted song about the countryside like Greasy Jungle, another moment of pure beauty like Ahead by A Century. How long can I go on torturing myself? The band’s heyday is over. I should just count myself lucky that I was part of that period at all.
Looking forward to album reviews for MMP, I can only imagine that three stars out of five will be the high end. How can anyone rave about music that is so nondescript? This is mood music. This is something you play in the background. It's sound-oriented instead of song-oriented. It’s a long time since The Hip put focus on being assertive, and this song sounds like they're determined not to be noticed.
The Hip have evolved into something whose appeal I don’t totally recognize. They’re not a shadow of their old selves, but rather something else entirely, something which I admittedly don’t really like. I can hardly be mad that they’re evolving, but maybe it’s time I cash out. If this is really what they sound like now, can I still say they’re my favorite band?
Here's my take on it:
In a World Possessed By the Human Mind
E
Just gimme the news
C#m
It can all be lies
E C#m
Exciting over fair or the right thing at the right time
E
Everything is clear
C#m
Just how you described
E C#m
The way it appears, ‘a world possessed by the human mind’
A (3x) C#m B E
Then I think I smiled
A C#m B E A
Then I think you said, ‘it’s fine’
C#m B E A C#m
And quietly I dressed in a world completely possessed by the human mind
A (4x) C#m E C#m
E
We’re in awe of no one
C#(sus2)C#m
We’ve none of their fear
E C#m
Fightings’s going nowhere, and we stay right here
E
Where everything is quiet
C#m
A little super-dangerous
E C#m
‘In the shadow of the law and with colors of justice’
A(3x) C#m B E
Then I hope I smiled
A(3x) C#m B E
Then I’m sure you said, ‘it’s fine’
A(3x) C#m B C#m
They got no interest in a world completely possessed by the human mind!’
Walkdown:
C#m B A F#m E C#m
E
Everything is quiet
C#m
Little super-dangerous
E C#m
Quiet enough to hear god rustling around in the bushes
E
Oh, but it was you
C#m
Girl I was so afraid
E C#m
You said, ‘you shoulda seen the look on your face’
A (3x) B C#m
Then I hope I laughed
E
Then I hope I said, ‘it’s fine’
C#m B A F#m
And quietly undressed in a world completely possessed by the human mind
play 4 times, working in this idea:
E A A(4x) C#m

I thought this thread could be a placeholder for all things rumours and announcements as far as shows go.
So far the only thing I've seen was someone said it would be theatres and not arenas this round. No dates or venues have yet been rumoured. I'd assume a small Toronto show in June sometime around the release and maybe Canada Day again?
If we're naming albums after old songs, I would have picked a different one... Unless they forgot they already released that song and added it to this album too...
So what are everyone's thoughts?
I'm bartending right now and just snuck in the back room for three minutes to hear it. Absolutely loving it. Classic Hip sound of the late 90s/early 00s in my opinion.
I know a lot of people are going to have a hard time sleeping tonight, daydreaming of some new tunes. I whipped up a dreamy instrumental cover of Flamenco you can sing yourselves to sleep with. All done on IOS apps. https://soundcloud.com/john-campbell-oc ... -hip-cover
Thanks to the Hipbasers I only need one more jersey to complete my collection.
I'm looking for a WHITE World Container hockey jersey (preferably a size L/XL or larger)
If you have one to sell please e-mail me at ken.dagg@ocdsb.ca
Thanks friends!
