I logged onto THC on Wednesday, just to see if anything had changed. I noticed the Merch link, and decided to check it out. It takes you to MapleMusic's Hip site, but it isn't The Hip site, it's The Hip Club site. I've been looking for "The Best of..." tab book for a long time, and every site says sold out, or out of print, including MapleMusic; however it is available through THC. I ordered my book Wednesday evening, and it was in my mailbox on Friday morning.

So it's not all bad...

Yeah so Im really bored this morning, so I decided to translate "the tragically hip" into other languages, some are quite funny. I couldnt do any asian languages because I dont have the language packs, and they wouldnt display properly, sorry asia! Here are the ones I found using the internet:

I'm sorry folks, but I think patriotism is bull-shit. I don't have a Canadian flag on my backpack, I don't own a Team Canada jersey and I sure as hell don't have a Canadian flag tattoo.

I feel unbelievably fortunate to live in this country, as everyone should be. Our standard of living is unimaginably high. The natural beauty of this country is breathtaking. I could go on. Canada is a great country. Is it the best in the world? Well, I've only been to two countries, so I'll reserve judgement. See the thing is, I just don't feel the need to celebrate these things.

Now, I can't get inside Gord's head. I doubt anyone can, but I tend to think that his feelings on patriotism are in the same ballpark as mine. He briefly discusses it at the end of the article in the national post (intentional non-capitilization) and I think he is generally critical of it. I remember a quote from him, and I paraphrase, "nationalism is inherently racist", which is of course true when taken to the extreme.

So, I wonder what Gord and the boys are thinking when they see the guy drunk on Coors, er I mean Canadian, with his Team Canada jersey waving an oversized Canada flag? What are they thinking when they see their work used as a symbol of rabid patriotism?

I wonder...

Note: I truly don't mean to offend. If you're idea of a good time is dressing up as Captain Canada, then all the power to you.

So I finally got a date. I am meeting this girl and we are going to the Sadies show on Saturday night along with 4 or 5 of my friends. Now, we all enjoy a few "lefties" before concerts. I think I dig this girl but have no idea how she will react to reefer. Is the first date too soon to whip out the cheeba? Any advice?
