Lowell Green had a caller on his show today say the halftime show was more tragic than hip. What a tragically ignorant person. Lowell backed this up. I didn't catch the whole show today but I heard someone say that the half time performance at the Grey Cup was 'more tragic than hip'. I've been listening to the Lowell Green show since I was in first year university in 1996 and that is the most grossly ignorant statement I've heard on the show or in my 27 years of life experience for that matter; here's why: even if you do not like hard rock and would rather Celine Dion, or as you say Lowell, Shania (both of who are HIP fans) play the half time show, which is fine, don't claim the HIP lack the talent to play the gig. Their performance had enough energy and talent to elicit positive reviews in every major newspaper in the country including the Citizen which read "In Gord we trust." More importantly what the HIP represent earn them that spot. The Hip are Canadian icons symbolic of our culture more than you realize. From St. John's to Vancouver, there's hockey, RCMP, maple syrup and the HIP. The lead singer who I heard say at one of their concerts this summer "I feel so patriotic, I could dance all night," is the most visually mesmerizing rock singer this country has ever produced. He sings like he's performing an exorcism on himself; a seemingly endless well of energy spews from his body as though it's being emptied against his will. Our biggest rock star isn't one at all in the drugs-and-sex-and-stupidity sense of the term. He has been an ambassador of Canadian music. Playing in Central Park one Canada Day they came from as far as Vancouver. They wrapped Canadian flags around their shoulders, tucked miniature Maple Leafs in their hair and drank a few beers. They define for my generation what it is to be Canadian. I witnessed when Woodstock '99 was an oasis of Canadiana when the HIP took the stage and it turned into Canada Day for 50,000 Canadians while 200,000 Americans scratched their heads. I'll never forget the indescribable sea of Canadian flags, the Canadian anthem, the chanting of "HIP." Afterwards, original Woodstock organizer, Mike Lang said the Hip most closely reflected the spirit of the original Woodstock. I invite you Lowell to see the HIP live Sunday and to listen to their music and read their lyrics which are so full of Canadian history and culture references.

Im ashamed to post this. :oops: I hate when bands of old take great classic songs and remix them with todays morons, and turn these great rock songs into some dance mix shit aaarrrrrggghhhhhhh! :x
Perfect example: when Pdiddler did that remix of Kashmir, I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself in it, or the Elvis remixes on both greatest hits albums......Im gonna go puke.

i just got my new copy of the magazine and the hip are mentioned on page 36 in the section called changes


TOURING: the Tragically Hip launched a Canadian tour November 14th to raise awareness for the environmental group Waterkeeper Alliance
which works to protect North American waters

A nice show from the U.S. leg of the M@W tour. Only a single set show,
but still featuring Chris & Kate. Some nice backing vocals from Kate,
and stellar organ/keyboard work from Chris. A particularly funky
version of Twist My Arm caught my attention on this one.

This is a very good recording, although it seems to have taken the taper
a little bit of time to get his/her levels just right at the beginning.
It was well worth it though, and the sound is great after a bit of minor
jumping around right at the beginning. Gord's ramblings and rants are
rather quite, and a little difficult to make out, but I think that was a
function of Gord's style at the time and fairly typical for that entire
tour, as opposed to any deficiencies in the recording. His vocals are
heard perfectly when actually singing.
