A year ago an earthquake hit Iran, today one hit Asia.
At least 11,500 people have been reported dead...and the number keeps growing by the minute.

Well we've all had our Christmas gifts in Detroit & the Xmas Grab Bag, now for your Boxing Day Special!

I've transfered from VHS to DVD, the 1993 Kumbaya Festival performance by the Hip, as well as Andrew Cash & Gord Downie performing Cash's "Hey Maria". I was at this show, so I had to pay my youngest sister to transfer 4 VHS tapes throughout the day, to record the entire Much Music broadcast of the festival.

This performance remains one of my all-time favourites. Short but sweet!

howdy folks...just wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions for a dvd writer to buy, i have been looking at the HP DVD630I...also does anyone know how complicated it is to install your own

I know this has been discussed in previous threads in the past but they are pretty old. I am thinking about buying the enhanced c.d.'s but from what i have gathered from previous threads you cannot access the video's because the mini sites they are affiliated with no longer exist. Is this the only way to access the video's or are there ways to watch the video's without the non-existent mini sites? I just don't want to waste my money on something that doesn't work. Thanks in advance.

Lance, it looks like the Hipbase is bigger than we know..

For everyone in the Toronto area that listen to 102.1 The edge..you'll know what I am talking about, but read on anyways.

For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about.. There is a program called "The ongoing history of New Music, hosted by Alan Cross, a big wig at the radio station. Pre-LBU Alan did "The ongoing History of the Tragically Hip. They replayed it about 6 months ago, but I was working and missed it. I emailed Alan and asked him if he could put it on the website (<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.edge.ca">www.edge.ca</a><!-- w -->), he told me he would, but not until he added some....finishing touches. Not that it matters..but I told him I was a member of the Hipbase, A forum to discuss the Tragically Hip (and gave him the URL). Well, the ongoing history of the Tragically hip has found it's found it's way onto the website.

So I guess Suprnova is shut down for good now. SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!! I am really gonna miss how just hours after a show was on TV I could download a digital copy that somebody with HDTV copied. I never bothered downloading music but I loved the PC games...I am really gonna miss them.

The main page says:

I call in to my favourite local station (the Bear 106.9 Ottawa) on a fairly regular basis even though they play the Hip a lot anyways. Most of the time they're cool about suggestions for which songs to play. Every now and then I lean on them to play something obscure...something from Henhouse or M@W...but they rarely go through with it!! But since they play a Hip song every hour or two, I often hear the song I specifically asked them to play.

So how are the radio stations in your regions? Do you actually manage to get more Hip on the radio more with requests, and do they usually play what you ask for? I know when I lived in Quebec City my station of choice played Hip once in a while, not as often as I would have liked, and never my specific request. Does it usually work for you guys?

It's a new band. Interesting sound. Not sure if I like them yet. It's the name that caught me by surprise. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of 20th century history knows that Franz Ferdinand was the archduke of Austria-Hungary and heir to its throne. He was assassinated on June 28, 1914 in Sarajevo. The aftermath of this spark led to World War I. I do not like the name. Here's why. Generally speaking, their audience will be early and mid-teenage kids. Who will get the reference? It's not a particularly clever name. There's no real significance in it. What are they trying to achieve or prove? Other than they know a little something about The War To End All Wars. The real question is, can we form a rival band named Gavrilo Princip?
