Now that the facts have been released, let's revisit the question.

The RCMP has revealed that ... Roszko was forbidden to own firearms since 2000. Despite this, he was armed with:
- a rifle, which had to be registered under current law,
- an assault rifle which at the very least had to be registered, and which may have been completely illegal (the RCMP are not commenting on whether it was fully automatic), and
- a pistol, which had to be registered under the old gun control laws in effect before the Montreal massacre.

Somehow, despite all existing measures, a man who was prohibited from owning firearms got his mitts on two long guns (one potentially a prohibited weapon) and a restricted weapon.

The Grope and Flail reports that he was known to own the weapons and that police had failed to confiscate them. In 1993, they searched specifically for the assault rifle (which suggests that it was believed to be a prohibited weapon). Also, most of Roszko's weapons were illegally smuggled from the United States.

Now that the facts are in, does the suggestion that more gun control is needed appear to be, gosh, I dunno, political opportunism?

Did anyone catch this on the radio today? I heard it at around 4:20 pm EST in Ottawa on All in a Day. Seemed like a pre-recorded reading of a text of some sort. Didn't catch it all, but would like to hear it in it's entirety.

Did anyone else hear this?

Doing some research on why Americans are always considered more pious and religious than Canadians (And why and when that used to be the other way around) and it turns out that a large number of Canadians, myself included, believe in God or a higher power, but have abandoned organized religion and the "Church on Sunday" routine.

So, less religious certainly doesn't mean less faithful or spiritual, and in fact, some of the folks who claim no religion, seem to be the most emphatic about God (or a reasonable facimile) and his existence.

I'd assume there's an equally large number of folks like this South of the border as well.

What's your take?

With all the book pitching, and all my bitching about the demise of the old reference sites, I decided to kill two birds with one stone.

I created "A Museum After Dark," which you can find over at http://www.geocities.com/stephendame

It'll host the introduction and six initial chapters, as well as all the "who, what, where and why's" of Hip lyrics.

I hope to go beyond the FAQ, and I hope Hip fans will find it interesting and maybe even funny at times. If you think I'm stealing a little of the website's concept from the Burning Church, you're wrong. I'm stealing a lot of the website's concept from the Burning Church. So thanks to those guys wherever they are.

It's a work in progress, and I'm teaching myself HTML as I go, so expect more content over quality in the weeks to come.

Well my mom got my some Practically Hip tickets, but because i am at a new job now, and can't take the time off work to go! I would see if anybody on here is interested in them!
Here is the ticket info:

I have 3 tickets (each ticket is for 1 person + 1 guest)
Date: March 31st, 2005.
Venue: L'IL Big Horn, Cambridge, Ontario.
Time: 9:30pm

Tickets are free, but i want to get rid of them to people who are acually going to use them, and not just waste them!
