In a duel between HMV and Dylan, HMV has fired the first shot, while reports are that Dylan isn't paying attention. HMV is reported to be bleeding badly from the foot.

That's the roundabout introduction to saying I went to buy the new Bob Dylan today (or the new old Bob, if you like). I went to HMV as it happens to be closest. And they are refusing to carry it, or anything else by Dylan, for that matter.

Apparently they throw this hissy fit whenever someone decides to distribute a disc without letting HMV sell it. In this case, it's Dylan selling the Gaslight Tapes through Starbucks that has them in a tizzy. They've also done it to the Rolling Stones. And for country fans, rumour has it they're about to do it to Garth Brooks.

So they sure taught Bob, anyway, as I went running into the arms of their competitors, who promptly gave me a big hug and a kiss. So this cost who, again? Given that the girl at HMV gave me directions to the competition?

Are these people utter morons? As more and more artists explore alternative means of distribution, how many times do they think they can pull this stunt before people start bitching that they can never find what they want, and vote with their feet? I guess this just shows that if you can spell MBA, you can run a business.

I can't fucking wait....

The Joel PLaskett Emergency show on the Ottawa '04 DVD is gonna be a real treat! Thanks so much to the taper. Would you happen to have any screen shots??
The JPE are a fantastic band, a true gem from Halifax. There was a DVD of a solo acoustic show Joel did in Montreal this past spring that was distributed to fans after the show. Apparently Maple Music was trying out system that night for live DVD production and about 100 discs were given out. Anyone have a copy? I've got plenty to trade ...

Dam I love this song, I cant stop listening to it. Its like when Color and the Shape was released, I must of listened to Everlong a gazillion times. This song is having the same effect on me. Anybody else loving this tune?

Anyone here into Harvey Danger? Their first CD (title of thread) is extremely solid, their follow-up album was a little unsteady. You probably know them best for their obnoxious single "Flagpole Sitta" (Paranoia, paranoia everbody's coming ta get me...). Whoever picked that as the single should be stoned, because it was the worst song on the album. Anyway, sorry if this was already posted, I just wanted to spread the word because they're relatively unknown.

I'm going to nominate them. Anyone wanna back this effort?

My spring and summer 2005 have been bettered by the recent efforts of Green Day and Audioslave. Anybody else into these records? "Jesus of Suburbia" and "Be Yourself" are serious winners. Album(s) of the year.

not a huge fan of OLP but my fiancee is so i took her to the show at the mod club last night. New stuff sounds great i must say. Mixed it in with some of the old including
innocent,
starseed,
clumsy,
naveed,
4am and
superman's dead.

She went out to buy the new cd today. from what i can remember, they played
love and trust,
where are you,
picture,
wipe that smile off your face

from the new one...acouple more but not sure what they were called.

All in all, pretty solid show.
