I have two DVDs ready to be released:

The Hip - October 16, 2002 in Toronto at The Hummingbird Centre
or
The HDRC - May 5, 2005 in Kingston at Elixir

I'll run the poll for the next few days, and go from there...

3 cameras for the Hip.
2 cameras for HDRC.

Great camera quality audio for The Hip.
Soundboard audio for The HDRC.

Paul Langlois performs (and kicks ass) in both of them.

Hey, I'm a poor college student with a college internet server the prevents me from downloading songs. My Tragically Hip collection is far from complete, though. PEARL JAM JOINED BY ROBERT PLANT AT KATRINA BENEFIT

Pearl Jam will be joined by former Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant as part of the lineup of the band's Hurricane Katrina benefit, according to Reuters. The event, for which tickets are priced at $1,000, will take place on October 5th at the House Of Blues in Chicago. A spokesperson for the club said that four luxury boxes priced at $25,000 each have already been sold. Proceeds from the show will go to the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the Jazz Foundation of America and the New Orleans Musicians' Clinic, among other organizations.


wow..if i only had the money...i'd be there tonight..i wonder if eddie and robert will sing together on anything??? my money's on gallows pole...

I can not believe what I saw last night!

My new list of best acts I have seen live goes like this

1. Radiohead
2. Arcade Fire
3. Tragically Hip

I know that is blasphemy on this site but you wouldn't believe how good the Arcade Fire was last night. Almost all of the members were multi-instrumentalists who all sang and sang well. The band was so tight for a group that only really has one major release. Every song blew my mind.

Do whatever it takes, mortgage your house, fly to bangkok do whatever you have to do to see these guys in a small venue before they absolutely blow up.

Opened with Wake Up which is a great song to open with and they played it flawlessly. Their set included most of Funeral, a bit of their EP and a couple covers including a Bruce Springsteen and New Order cover (both great).

Finished the set with Power Out which led into Rebellion (Lies) and the place went crazy.

I must say Red's, a bar/arcade/restaurant in West Ed Mall was not a great venue to see them in, it was far too small for the crowd and the acoustics for the Bell Orcheste (interesting included 3 members of Arcade Fire) and Wolf Parade (Great new Disc, good live band) were crappy, but it seemed like the Arcade Fire simply overpowered the problems and you didn't notice them at all. They are really intense and very loud live.

Last thing I want to say is how crazy these people are. Its like a modern art project watching this band play, they play broken instruments, motorcycle helmets, each other in the motorcycle helmets, the scaffolding of the stage ANYTHING they can hit with a stick or their hands. They are crazy.

Anyway, get out there and see them if you have the chance, I can say for a fact you will not be disappointed

So I've been feeling a little nostalgic for the days of my youth recently... partly since last weekend I went back to UWO's Homecoming to celebrate my 10-year class reunion... holy crap, where has the time gone?

Anyway, I remember there being some great Canadian rock music "back in the day". And with this thread about an old forgotten favourite of mine, The Pursuit of Happiness (http://www.hipbase.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7664), it got me to thinking about putting together an ultimate late 80's to early-mid 90's Canadian rock mix CD (or CDs if there is enough material). For this exercise I have decided to not count the Hip, since I already have everything they've released so far, plus several boots of live concerts contributed by some of the fine members of this site. :thumb:

Here are some of the bands that I am considering including a song or two from:

Sloan (earlier stuff)
Lowest of the Low
The Watchmen

Our Lady Peace (earlier stuff)

Now, here's where I ask for your help. I'm sure I'm missing a lot of great bands from that time, so what are your suggestions? What would you include in your ultimate Late 80s - Early-Mid 90's Canadian Rock Mix CD?

Former tour manager, Dave Powel, famous for being the birthday boy from the Hengelo show, writer of emails in the early days, all that jazz. Turns out he's a Master's student here with me at Lakehead. How's that for small world?

I'm hoping to talk with him, if he's willing to talk about his time with the band. From the first meeting I had with him a couple of weeks ago, he seems like a hell of a guy. He was even wearing a 9:30 Club t-shirt. Didn't know at the time though who he was, and while talking "Hip" with a couple of the guys in my program tonight he came up.

Cool huh? Maybe I can craft a story out of this for the paper.
